Hello,

I am the proud owner of a SRV Signature Stratocaster, which I received as a graduation gift this past January. About two weeks ago, I picked up and noticed that all of the strings had gone flat, so I dutifully tuned it up (standard tuning), and was presented with fret buzz on the 5th and 6th string. So, based on my limited experience, I assumed that the guitar needed a truss rod adjustment due to weather changes. I took the guitar to my guitar instructor, who adjusted the truss for me, which seemed to improve the buzz slightly. So, I then took it back to Guitar Center and had the local guitar tech adjust the neck for me. I got it back yesterday, and took it to my guitar lesson today. The fret buzz is still there. However, my guitar instructor suggested that this "buzz" may be a feature of the SRV Strat, and perfectly normal. So, my question for the forum is, is this guitar supposed to buzz? Thanks!

Rich :D

I've played several SRV signature strats, both new and used, and every one of them were set up well with no buzz. I'd suggest you find a professional guitar tech who works in a "Mom and Pop" guitar store and have him look at it. Guitar Center isn't known for good set ups. Maybe your frets need to be leveled, maybe your action needs adjusts, maybe it's an issue with the nut, or something else. A guitar tech will know.

Oh, and congrats on getting an awesome guitar. :) Hopefully it'll be back into shape soon.

My response to the guitar teacher would have been:
"Really? Hmmm. You're fired."

The day Fenders feature annoying fret buzz as a "feature" is the day I go back to Gibsons.

LOL Good one 01gt. No there is not supposed to be a buzz I hope this guy is a better teacher than tech. I would agree and exactly with what Tex said and all will be fine.

I am suprised you got a new axe that came from fender out of spec. Especially and srv strat. It sounds like the neck tilt might be off. If it is the 5th and 6th strings that buzz, the fingerboard may not be parrallel with the guitar face. This should be and easy adjustment, unless it is truly authentic and uses wedges to tilt the neck, in which case, I hope this is not the issue.
