I'll admit I don't follow Slipknot very closely so I don't know what their album sales are like. Do I listen to them (and Stone Sour too), yes once in a while.

You are correct in that I pretty much think that guys who have not earned a signature model (through career longevity) are merely cashing in on what is usually momentary popularity. Billy Corgan did it, so did Avril Lavigne. Guitar LEGENDS deserve Artist models, and by legend I mean players that changed the way we play and/or who's careers have spanned decades.

I'm not saying it's not cool looking or that the guitar won't sound great. What I am saying is that in my opinion it will probably cost more than it's performance warrants. Fender could put out the same guitar for a lot less by NOT having Jim Root's name on it. They would probably make more sales too because it would be accessible to a larger number of players.

Strat Body prob made of mahogany, EMG pickups, Hardtail Bridge, Prob a San Dimas shaped neck, prob MIM...

So if I got this right, the only thing fender about it is the shape of the body and the decal on the headstock...right (perhaps the bridge too)?

i understand what your saying but jim root is very individual in his guitar playing and also influential to alot of players i imagine. AS is john 5 although he is not as much in the public eye as some people who are "legends" such as jimmy page for example but johns playing is second to none. he has got to be without doubt one of the most versatile and greatest players around. but then again to be honest of fender said to you make your dream guitar and we'll give you it for free wouuld you say no?

the guitar would be much cheaper when fender would sell it as maybe "the second generation" of the flat head models - but not from the custom shop

the specs are near similiar to each other one volume knob and a three way toggle and the emg's are the same - only the color and the pickguard are different

the jim root tele is just a great guitar all around and the strat will have the same little things like the neck contour

It looks nice and I do like the simplicity of just one knob too.

I really like his Tele model, reminds me of an old Charvel San Dimas Tele I had back in the late 80's. I'll definitely be checking out his Strat when it hits the streets.

I think the white/cream colored strat he uses in their sulfur video looks much cooler than the black/black strat.

He already has a white/white tele he played in stone sour which looks awesome.

I actually think he is worthy of a signature model. Is there a criteria for longevity before someone is considered worthy of one? Because it happens to be Fender, does that mean they have to be all blues or classic rock heroes? He really does have a lot of skill, and I do enjoy listening to Slipknot. I think it's nice to see some hard-core guitar players with Fender signature models.

If you've never been to a Slipknot concert, they really are a lot of fun. I just saw Slipknot on Halloween night here in Vegas at the Palms, and there's no better band to see on that night IMO.. It was freaking awesome!! I think it was my 5th time seeing them live.

As far as the guitar, I haven't seen it myself, but he sure did tear it up at the show I saw. And every one before that, whatever he was playing.
