Hi tfunk182: digging into my vast knowledge of old car colors (or Google, as some call it) the answer appears to be a 1956 Lincoln Premiere Hardtop. Does that sound right?

Now. I think we'd all dig that color more if you could show it to us on a guitar, please? Which one's it on?

Cheers - C

Oops, not quick enough - I found it for myself.

A CS 1956 Relic - well that sort of works with the car ID I dug up, doesn't it?

Very pretty!

That color is far too unusual for a guitar paint company to bother supplying it.

Where I live (Europe) it is usually very easy to get custom colors made up by any automotive paint supplier. You can often choose whether you want it supplied as nitrocellulose or acrylic lacquer.

Go to an autoparts shop, tell them the make, model and year of the car (above) and the name of the color, and they can usually find the paint code (the crucial bit) and order a tin of it for you. Sometimes they can make it up on the spot.

If that doesn't work; why then you could always ask Fender's Custom Shop who supplied their lacquer and if they have a paint code for it. Then you can order some.

Maybe they'll tell you, maybe they won't...

Failing all of that, there's usually owners' clubs for old cars. Search one out on the net: those folks always have stacks of info about their vehicles and will surely be able to supply you with the paint code and probably a source to buy it from too.

Good luck - C

I own one, has to be one of the greatest buys ever. Wildwood has a current production right to the color through the FCS:

http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/fe ... r48276.php

they use it for their Wildwood 10s, mainly on the '59 Teles and Strats (They don't do it for the '56 because they don't want confusion with the '56 out there in TT.

Hi straycat113: whether Fender would respray a Custom Shop guitar if asked I don't know. But I'm 99.5 percent certain they don't do resprays on any of their other product (except perhaps repairing a fault under warranty).

It's no problem, however. Take a glance in the small ads in guitar magazines, or just have a bit of a Google: the world's full of guys offering to strip and respray guitars - for the right money.

Some folks take their guitar to car body shops and have them do a respray. The success of that depends on the guy with the spray gun...

And some of us just do it ourselves. That's the route to all kinds of mayhem and magic...!

Cheers - C

EDIT: hey, is this your Surf Green Jeff Beck you're thinking about repainting? Tired of that discoloration on the forearm contour...?

Hi tfunk182: A quick look on US Google found me no end of auto paint suppliers. Which one to choose; that's a question for your fellow countrymen.

Where I live there's shops in every town that can mix a tin of paint from the code number. But if you have any trouble just find a supplier through Google and buy it mail order.

Do you want it in an aerosol or will you be using a spray gun? Have you done this stuff before...?

Cheers - C

Dave's Guitar Shop (in Wisc.) had a limited Fender Special Run of 57 Reissues in that T.T. color .... based on a nice vintage 1957 that Dave owns in that color.
