I found a Strat today in a pawn shop for $130.00. Seeming suspecious I inspected it. It was in great conditions. However, on the headstock, Stratocaster is written in big letters in the wavy or semi wavy looking pattern that they usually are written in and Fender was in small letters. I do not think it was in the cursive writting but in standard black print. Both had registered trademark symbols but I CAN NOT find headstocks pics or forums online for this. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it worth buying?

Thanks

Welcome!

I suspect the headstock originally read, "Squier by Fender Stratocaster" where someone removed the, "Squier by" part of the lettering. If this be the case, $130 isn't a bargain but it isn't a blatant rip off either. Can you snap a digital picture and post it for us?

No where Squirer is written is where Stratocaster was written. So where Fender would read on those Strats is where Stratocaster is written in big writting. It also does not say "By fender" Fender appears in small black print toward the end of the words "Stratocaster". Then again I dont think it was under it at all. I assume Fender was not in cursive writting bc it was too small of writting for it.

Right, some would read, "Squier Stratocaster" where, "Squier" was in large script, followed by big, bold printed letters reading, "Stratocaster" and immediately after that, "by Fender" would be written in small script.

Either way, the guitar has been tampered with. If I were you, I'd forget about it. Who knows if the rest of the guitar is even a Squier?

Can you play it? I mean, it's probably not real. At least, not a Fender, but if you like it, and it sounds and plays good, why not get it for $130?

Sounds like a Squier strat to me. 130$ for a mysterious used guitar that seems to be tampered with is not worth it IMHO.
