Can anyone give me some good advise on rechargeable battery options for my new VG strat? I just bought one, the last one I could find around here for the new $999 price. I had heard that many are using camera batts, which makes sense as they do tend to have a good life span.

Also, I went cold turkey last night after picking it up and bravely played a gig with it all night long. It sounded fantastic in almost all cases. The stock analog pups were great, much better than I had imagined. The 12 string settings rocked and the acoustic was pretty good too. I have to note so far that some of the settings on modeling seemed to "fart out" on the low end going to my AC30. I plugged it into my 70s vintage Deluxe as well and noticed it. I have not checked the batts yet but will shortly. One of the Acoustic setting did this and the HB as well. Any thoughts?

I'm a professional photographer as well as a musician, and I found some rechargeable batteries called Pearstone. They last a long time in my flashes and they also charge in a half hour.

B&H is a great company. I've been buying equipment from them for about 12 years with never a problem.

Thanks for the tip. Have you used these in a VG? How long do they last compared to a typical Alkaline Bat? DO you know what the max # of cycles of charging they allow?

Thanks

Never used them in a VG, but I use them in my professional camera flashes on almost a daily basis. They last about 2-3 times longer than alkaline batteries. Flashes are really hard on alkaline batteries. I'm not sure how many charges. I've recharged them almost 100 times so far and no problems at all.

I have been using Dura Cell rechargables in the 2650mi/ah in the american std and the FSR American Deluxe VG that I have and they work great.I bought 8 batteries and a charger off a vendor on ebay for about 40/45 dollars shipped.I have since seen the identical set up at Target stores for about the same price. They last many, many hours between charging, just remember to unplug the cord from your guitar when not in use as this saves battery power. I would also like to say that people that have stated that the vg has limited battery life has not tried these batteries or is just speculating and has never owned a VG.

It really wants re-chargeable 2600-2700 mAh batteries . I got a Kodak charger and batteries for mine. I got 2400-2500 mAh batteries. I couldn't find the 2600-2700 mAh ones - but I didn't go to any websites or photo shops - I just went to the nearest Staples. The batteries (that I use) last about 7 to 8 hours. I bought the charger (which came with 4 AAs) and another set of batteries - I think I spent about $36 total in a Staples.

Hope that helps.

I bought some Powerex 2700 rechargeables. I've been getting about 10 hours out of a set. I got about 3 hours out of the batteries that came with it. I think they were fairly new since I bought the guitar the first day GC put them on sale and they just got the guitars in for the sale.

I don't know if the batteries get used up more when you use the modelling or not. During a gig I usually only use the modelling on a couple of songs. The rest of the time I use the standard pups.

I bought them online. I think the sight was www.greenbatteries.com they had the best deal on them that I could find.

I bought some energizer rechargables at Kmart - I play for 30-60 minutes on different guitars every day, and recharge once a week, so I would say you get 4-6 hours out of them.

Will a VG play like an American Standard if the battery is removed or dead?

Pretty much. You can use the regular pickups when the batteries are dead and it works and sounds just like a "regular" Strat.

Thank you, G.A.D. On that, 'tried a VG in detail, several hours' playing; and was thoroughly surprised by:

1) how much wood they took out for the battery box and Roland pup stuff

2) sisde-by-side with a '90 American Standard, how good the VG sounded with the batteries out

Go figure.
