I don't think you are an idiot. We all have our demons ... there is no one here that could legitimately make that judgement of you. No one. Nice job on getting clean.

Ive never had anything to do with drugs, well- maybe while I was on OE in Amsterdam- thats a different story... But its one thing to admit to a problem, and another to be man enough to do something about it for yourself & loved ones sake- Giving up and coming clean isnt as easy as anyone could ever describe, given the torment and horror one's body & soul experiences in the process- and goes to show from OP that drugs can make you do stupid things like sell your beloved axe...

Perhaps maybe things serve to be remembered or reminded and not forgotten, go do yourself a favour- with all the extra cash you will save being clean, why not save & buy yourself a nice new one, reward yourself for doing something worthwhile. You'll feel good for it. But never forget what happened to the one that slipped between your hands.

Good on ya mate :)

Good on getting and staying clean. Seriously.

As others have said, 'am in favour of you letting it go.

You can write a blues song in tribute to it on your new Strat.

"...I got strung out on Weed-B-Gone and sold my lovin' axe to buy some Crysytal Drano cause I needed to do a couple hundred lines..., oh effin' woe was my sorry afs...."

Well done my Brother. You got clean, now stay clean.

Regarding the guitar. . . talk to whoever you sold it to, and offer to buy it back. If it's that important offer them a bit more than it's worth.

If that doesn't work look on the bright side and go test drive lots of guitars until you find a new one that feels just right and buy it. Then don't make the same mistake a second time.

Congrats on getting clean! That's no small task...it says a lot about your character.

My opinion would be to celebrate your new life with a new Strat. Years down the road it will be a wonderful marker for your years of sobriety!

:D Hey everyone! Thanks for the support! I read every single post and it makes me feel a lot better. Im really surprised that i got this many responses. It just goes to show how much people still care. I'm staying sober one day at a time. I have a sponsor and im working my steps and going to meetings. I finally got a job so now im saving up for that brand new stratocaster. I'm so totally stoked cuz i found one that i really want and i cant wait to get it. It's a fire engine red MIM standard with a maple fretboard. When I get it im gonna drop some texas specials in there, load it up with some 13s and play my heart out.

Thanks everyone
-Dave

Let the past go because it appears to have been bad to allow such a thing happen. It's a New day :D that and I don't get emotional about things like it being my first guitar. I have had better since.

Hi Dave, good luck with your new start, getting clean. It is a big deal to rework your life, and try make it better. Not everyone that takes a stroll down the wrong path tries to get the ship righted again, I wish you unfettered success. Try not to get hung up on what has come before, and just use it as a lesson in things you need to stay away from. I have had friends take that same wrong turn, and I can tell you from seeing their experiences, that is is possible to clean up and stay clean, remember that if and when you find it hard. You can take control, and keep it.

look forward to the new guitar, and don't worry about the one from your past. A guitar is a guitar(no matter how good,) the sun will go up and you can look toward making some music with a new axe.

Im sorry to hear the situation. Like was said earlier, you are a step ahead by recognizing change is needed, and 5 steps ahead by being able to quit. Good things happen for people like you. Keep your eyes open and Im sure youll find another guitar soon. Fender will probably make sunburst as long as they make strats, so you should find another thats similer.
Good luck with your future endeavores.
Jason
