So i know a lot of you will call me an idiot, but i recieved a sunburst stratocaster as a gift in early 2008 and played it for a long time and absolutely loved it. But in mid 2008 i got into a nasty drug habit and ended up selling it. in january of 09 i checked into rehab to get myself clean and ever since then, i have wanted to get my guitar back. It was my first guitar i fell in love with it and drugs took all that away. now the drugs are gone and i miss my guitar. I know who has it and im willing to do anything to get it back.

any advice?

Congrats on getting clean!

Go talk to them and explain how you feel. The worst they can do is tell you no. In that case it's time to find a new guitar.

First, congratulations on your sobriety. If he'll sell it back to you,get it,if not, another will come along and fill that void. Good luck. 8) Mike

I feel the same as Chet and Cherokee. The main thing is your clean and if it stands that you cant get it back then thats a reminder for the rest of your life of what addiction can make you do. But at least you know that as long as your clean something like that can never happen.

First off, I don't think anyone here would call you an idiot. Secondly, congrats on getting clean and I hope the best for you. I have some close friends who have been down that road, and though it's not easy it is possible to stay clean. I hope that you can get your guitar back, but as others have said, if you can't try to find another to fill that void.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Jim

You could always look at it this way....A new start on life with a new guitar.

Hey bluesdude1991, your victory is to be clean. Stick with that and go on with your life. Consider that guitar as a collateral damage and forget it. Now if you really can't, talk to that guy and offer him to buy it back. Don't do anything wrong to get it back. You put yourself into a lot of trouble to get a new life, enjoy it. Maybe a new life comes with a new guitar. Good luck.

Dont chase that guitar mate as much as you love it. Consider it 'the price you paid'. Kind of a constant reminder.

No one heres going to judge you or call you a idiot. In my case its 'there but for the grace of God go I'.

New start new strat, thats my take on it. Keep things fresh.

Well done, bluesdude, and congratulations on getting clean. There are plenty of guitars out there, but only one of you. 8)

I'm glad to hear your back on track. Congratulations! You're not an idiot, you just got sidetracked. Sometimes we all bad choices. The difference if you saw it.

I would forget the old guitar and get a new guitar to go with your new future.
Good luck my friend.

It never hurts to just ask (if you could somehow get it back). What've you got to lose?

Don't stalk your ex-guitar. It isn't yours anymore. I agree with the guys who say move on. After all that work in rehab I think you deserve a new guitar.

Since you're buying it, now you can choose the color and fingerboard. Start again, on your own terms, with your hard earned cash.

First, God bless ya for getting clean and sober. My prayers are with you for staying that way.

Second, if you're able to track your guitar down, relate your incredible story and see if the current owner will sell it back to you. If not, treat yourself to a new axe. You deserve it!

Tell the current owner your story and that you have a similar guitar of the same value and that since you are emotionally attached to yours you would like to trade it off, no cash.
