Ok. Here it goes. I got a sunburst strat the other day from a pawn shop. MIM Neck with a Korean Body. At first I was like WTF? But it felt nice so I bought it. I was able to haggle the price down from $250 to $160. The only problem is the the 19th fret on the D string sounds dead. It has a horrible buzz, but the rest of the guitar seems unaffected. When I bend the G string on the 19th fret up it buzzes as well. I'm not sure whats wrong. Can anyone help? Is it fixable or will I need a new neck?

Fixable definitely. Diagnosable without a picture of the 21st - 15th fret area, no way.

Its a fret problem being as though its only the 19th fret where its occuring.

Usually, when a fretted note buzzes it is due to the fret directly above the fingered fret being taller. In some lesser instances, it can be two frets above. The fact that your G string cuts out too is because it's most likely being choked by that 20th fret. So, most likely your 20th fret is too high with a much smaller possibility of the culprit being the 21st.

Taking down a fret is a simple thing to do if one knows what they are doing. If they don't, it is equally a simple thing to radically mess up. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, take it to a reputable tech. The cost of taking down one fret is not and should not be a lot of money.

Buzz can be complex. 'Agree athotshot tech is your best bet.

Plus that, a pro setup will improve a decent guitar to good-plus.

Did you try raising the action a tad? It might just solve the problem. You are having the issue toward the middle of the fingerboard where the fingerboard would be closest to the strings if the saddles were adjusted straight accross. If your string saddles aren't adjusted to allow for the neck radius, the strings are going to "fret-out".

You will need to raise the D and G strings and possibly other strings to match up with that adjustment.

Are you tuned to A-440 pitch? If you are flat, it could be the problem or at least contribute to the problem.

I hope this is helpful. :)
