I'm really curious as to why there are $30 to $35 differences in price for the sunburst and natural finishes on Fender guitars. Is there really THAT much more labor involved with doing these types of finishes? I thought most of the work is done by machine these days. I really love the MIM 70's reissues Strats and prefer either the Sunburst or Natural finishes. But a jump from $699 to $735 has always been a bitter pill to swallow for me. It's not the actual dollar amount- $35 won't break me, but it's the principle. Gibson does it on some of their LP models, but not every single one. What do you all think? Am I being a tightwad?

Spraying paint on necks and bodies is a handjob.
Sunburst finishes take more time and work.
Yellow, red, black and a clear coat.
There are many things only people can do to make a guitar.
It's not all done with machines.

Also, with a solid finish, they can use any old piece of wood with multiple pieces if needed.
A transparent finish requires a slightly "nicer" piece of wood. You don't want a natural Strat with the obvious 4 piece body.

No, you are just being frugal with your money. For the extra $$ you'll get what you want.

yeh i heard the price increase is because a piece of wood is needed which doesnt have any knots or is genuinly nicer to look at, cos it doesnt matter what it looks like if its gunna be painted over!
