But I don't think it would work the same on the black Sharpie (UK = felt tip) on the paint chips on your black Strat, would it...?

(...Some people can remember football scores from 30 years ago. I can remember the dings on other people's guitars. I'm not sure which is worse...)

I actually used some black enamel (model) paint on the dings on my black strat 30 yrs ago. That paint did not hold very well. I would have been better off trying to hide the dings with a black Sharpie. But now I don't care to try to hide them.
