Seems odd they raised the prices and now act like on a Higway One there giving you a great discount at $700 thats what they were before the price hike I believe. Think they figured this out noing they were going to discontinue the HW!
Interesting

Ok, so I read the rules and instructions - how would the rebate work if you bought a guitar online, say from SamAsh, Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, Best Buy? Would you still get the rebate? Looks like you have to have your salesman sign the paper right?

I was thinking of some of those 5-15 watt practice amps. I have a 100W Line 6 Stereo AX2 converted from the Axis, one of the early modeling amps. That sucker can howl...

I just bought an Amer Standard via online from an authorized dealer. How am I supposed to get him to sign the rebate form? There's got to be an exception with online purchases. (?)

there is no way i would go back to SS amps

I hate to say it but I posted a thread a month ago saying now was the time to buy if you had some extra cash. I had a GAS attack at just the right time and in the last 3 months have scored of ebay-3 mint flamed maple Wolfgangs/A Fender American deluxe tele with a rosewood fretboard for $1,070 brand new from a store in SAN FRAN so I have a warranty on that /and a music man Petrucci that i checked out at GC fell in love and then grabbed a new old stock from a store in Jersey for $1,540 fully loaded with piezo on ebay and saved $690.This has been the happiest guitar buying time ever for me.I passed on a brand new 62 strat for $1,300 which had just gone up to $2,200 because I did not feel the guitar and who ever got it must of really wanted it to play so God bless them. I am going to say it again before everything levels off this is the time to grab the ax you badly want as all you see are people saying I hate to let this go but I have to pay my bills.I mean what ever you want is out there now and as cheap as your ever going to get it.Mostly all the purchases everyone on the forum have been making are from ebay or craigslist so dont let GC or Sam Ash drain your pockets that purchase you always wanted is ripe for the picking now as so is my GAS attack but I still cruise and see crazy bargains out there but I also see my wife ready to kill me.KEEP ON ROCKIN.

You're right -- bargains are there to be had. But don't forget to check the smaller Fender shops for deals. At my local dealer, I bought two brand new Strats on special clearance for pretty incredible prices. The clearance sale was no doubt a reaction to the effect on business of the economy crashing.

With the rebate thing now in effect, I'd love to add a Tele to the stash before the Sept. 15 deadline...

Personally, I bought a VG Strat last year and I'm still ticked about the recent price drop on that instrument. I lost about $600 in value as a result of that Fender decision.

I also wrote to Fender about their recent price hikes. Given the economy the way it is, and that gigs are not too plentiful these days, it seems to me that raising the prices is a case of poor timing. Fender's reply to me was that wood and other material prices had been going up for some time and that they didn't make price adjustments in previous years.

I think that the rebate is just a way of trying to generate sales. I'd like to see them drop their prices back 15% -20% or so as a 30% price hike all at once is just too damn much of a hike to deal with all at once.

Oldguy I am very happy for you on getting a great deal and adding 2 new honeys to the arsnel. I am glad you see the advantage in the market right now for buying and hope you grab that tele as it is not going to last very long and I hope everyone on the forum can take advantage even if you have to borrow, After all we are players and not just buying to buy as I dont have nothing against straight collectors because I think they have to play to the best of there capabilities and I can even sympathise with the ones who cant play at all I guess because I see guitars as art. I mean a beautiful woman ,guitar and car thats as good as it gets.PDX I know where your coming from but I would not panic.Yes there was a big drop in the VG but right now if your happy with it and playing it thats what matters first. Second it is American made and discontinued and thats a big plus as there has not been one american Fender I have ever owned that I lost money on and everything I have now has gone up and even doubled in value. I cannot say the same for my 3 MIJ Fenders with one of those being my #1.They are 80s teles and 2 of them have been modded big time but I have to say there to that I see my 85 62 reissue go for 8 and change on ebay and I only paid 5 but the modding would drop the resale but that ax will be with me forever. But I would not give up on the VG yet and I think if you hold on long enough you will be alright, and you young guys out there please do not sell your guitars to GC or Sam Ash or whoever because you are getting robbed straight up.Even if they tempt you with we will take X amount off on the new guitar you want they are still going to make a profit on you.Sell it on ebay or craigslist for what you think is a fair price and get what you deserve for your guitar believe me I have been there and have seen youg guys and even older guys get taken advantage of by fast talking salesmen.I would not or have not bought a new guitar in a chain store in 20 years and I probably never will again.

I only took a look at Musicians Friend, and they honor the deal. There's a sort of rebate tag located above the picture if you'd like to check it out :D
