Well it looks like everyone is finally being cut a break - Fender is offering a $100 rebate on all American Standard Models!! 8)

As for myself, I just ordered a Highway One. It's too bad the offer doesn't seem to apply to those aswell.

Your thoughts on the deal?

Perhaps an effort to counteract some backlash from that big price increase a few months ago.

I have been shopping for an Am Std Strat the past month or two. I was talking to a local shop owner (Fender dealer) and he was telling me that he hasn't sold many Strats and Teles this year. I think Fender is feeling the pinch.

I don't begrudge Fender raising the price - they haven't in years. Maybe it was a bit too steep at once; but their timing was horrible!

I was there after June 1 when they discounted the price $75.00. He was hoping more of them would start moving.

This oughta help - I know it does for me! He'll be seeing me this week!

On a tangent: We all see it in buy/sell/trade forums, the trend now is that many are selling stuff dirt cheap and yet, it barely moves. The majority of the activity seems to be trade proposals of some sort. Well, that's what most of us have to do if most of us are broke. On the other hand, those who still have a buck are scoring left and right.

Back on point: I think FMIC finally realized that the bit off more than they can chew by ijacking up their prices at one of the worst economic times in global history. So, maybe this 'rollback' on their more expensive stuff might stimulate sales but again, refer to the above paragraph.

It sure took a while before anyone commented on the Rebates (I couldn't comment when I first saw it this morning).

I guess guys who bought an Am Std earlier this year got ripped off!

A rebate is a good way to reduce the price for the short term -- without getting locked into an actual price reduction.

They upped prices by 30% then offer a $100 rebate???

I'm sure atleast one person can see the money making scam in that (O.O).

$1200 guitar now selling for (including rebate) $1100. What were they before the increase?

It's almost like we're being psychologically made to believe that we're getting a good price with the rebate :P

niki, you always say exactly what i want to say before i do say it.

anyways i think the current market is in USED items. That even applies to my other hobby, Golf. I can pick up last years clubs(used maybe 1-3 times) for 1/2 price in my local golf shop

That's because Niki never sleeps. While you are lost in dreams, Niki is developing creative responses. You gotta play the game according to his rules.

Haha the funny part is that I live on the 3rd floor and I have all my gear on the balcony outside so they don't know where the sound is coming hehe
I do play loud because my amps weren't made to play at low volume's
