If you change the neck&middle ones with american standard pickups, it'll sound much better.

You can use texas specials too but i think that'll be more expensive.

I'm still liking my '05 Hwy 1 Strat w/ stock pups.

I play my Highway One everyday I can, which is pretty much everyday. It's good. After I put in the 5 springs to stabilize the tremolo I think on Chet's rec then the bridge dropped flush. Eventually I floated the bridge back up to factory 1/8 inch because I do pick "acoustic hard" because that's how I started and I dislike fret rattle.

I'm planning on locking Schaler tuners, a roller nut, stainless bridge saddle to avoid burrs and improve sustain, and SCN noiseless. Upgrades will run about $260 for parts, which just takes it up to list for a Highway One because it was on sale. Then, it'll be a lot like a Custom Pro. All upgrades are on indefinite hold now because it sounds so good and versatile out of the box I don't need to fix it.

If you want noiseless, neck/mid or bridge/mid. These positions also sound somewhat louder and better because of the way the pups are meshing. For a thick humbucker sound, go with about 4 on the tone knobs. If you want bright, just twist the knob to 10.

If the bridge pup sounds weak, may be too low from the factory. Mine was. Just raise it up using the adjustment screws.

I put a custom shop C neck on a Hwy one sunburst overpainted black and aged and checked. I went with the Kinman pickups. Man what a sweet guitar. The only competitor in my is my Rory Gallagher (Ok that is the essence of a strat rocker) and the now battle proven VG which is my stage guitar mostly at this point.
Still I think the HWY has such great tone and I just don't worry about it. It walks around my house and gets a little banged around and just keeps being the tone king it is.

I like my Highway 1 (06 Upgrade) that i got about 6 weeks ago now, i like the pickups as a whole on it, but i can see a Seymour Duncan JB Jnr going into the bridge for those humbucket tones, ofcourse ill coil tap it so i can have a single coil sound on the bridge.

I also will eventually put 9-46s on it so i can still have those chug-a-chug moments on the E string, but also have the versitility of the thinner strings on the treble end for those bluesy moments.

Out of the box my Highway 1 was awsome, the tuning stability is as solid as my ESP LTD EC with Sperzels, so i cant complain about the Fender QC for such a awsome axe at such a low price.

I would love another Highway 1 anyday, as long as it was a HSS one tho.

I got a Blues Junior amp this past Saturday. What a combination with my Highway One Strat. With hum cancelling in neck-mid or bridge-mid, it's silent because of the reverse polarity middle pickup. The combination of the Highway One with the gain-friendly pickups that still sparkle like diamonds clean and the Blues Junior is unbelievable. Using the preamp volume and the fat switch, adding reverb to taste, and using the base, treble, mid controls and the controls on the guitar, everything from phat blues to sparkling clean to heavy distortion is available and sounds very good.

Maybe I'm the minority but I bought a new 2007 highway 1 strat about 6 months ago, and have constantly struggled with the tuners. Seems like when I play in alternate tunings it takes forever to get it there. I eventually put 5 springs in the back, and it helped some. Also the jumbo frets drive me crazy when sliding from note to note. It's like there's a huge speed bump in the way. Other than those two gripes, it's been pretty good...

I am truly loving my HW1 that I picked up about 6 months ago. It is a 2006 but before the upgrade. The stock pups are sounding great. I play it through a Pro Reverb and just marvel at the clean tones I am getting. It seems like everytime I plug it in the first 5 minutes is nothing but frustration for the tone I had achieved the night before...then i leave it for about 20 minutes to let the tubes warm up and it just sparkles.
