ok, so i know this is going to sound kind of dumb, but i want to try it.
I have a failed? relic squier body, and i want to burn it.
not to the point of no return, but to maybe give it an interesting look.
i'm always wanting to true new or weird things, and i figured this would be
pretty out of the ordinary.
I want to know though,
has anyone here done this before?
what would the repercussions be?
what would be the best way to get a "controlled" burn?
~Jag

ok, so i have a few updates since my idea origionally came around.

I took a few pics of different aftermaths (sorry no action shots), but i did a lot to this body.

I first took Niki's warning into thought (thanks for the pics btw, it helped a lot).

the pick guard is mint green btw..

I first did some light burning with lighter fluid, didnt do much, just left what almost looks like water spots seen here:

I then went on to pour bleach on the guitar. let it sit in the sun for a bit.
The bleach really didnt affect the paint noticeably. it did however remove some fine scratches.

after that i went on to just a heavy duty spray on paint stripper in various spots, fallowed by scrapping, then more burning, then more scrapping.

then earlier today I felt that leaving it like that was crappy, and considering what ive already done, might as well hit it with more stripper.

so far this is the end result:

I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet.
I like it, but at the same time i dont.

I wanted to post an open offer though, considering how much this body has already been through, figured somethin else wouldnt hurt. so i ask two things:

1. what do you think about the guitar currently?

and

2. what else should I do to it? if you have an idea, im willing to try it. what do you want to see?

sorry about the long update.

I did it to a black squire. If your's is dark, I wouldn't do it. I got this weird green color. I think you should sand it with sandpaper, if you haven't already. It makes it look cool.

The green colour was probably a reaction on the polyester.

Just do it, you've wrecked it already what have you got to lose. I say lighter fluid, match and a bucket of water for when its had enough.

You got me thinking about torching one of mine too.

Hi jag_man: I read about a heavy relic job James Tyler did for one of his clients. First they took the finished body out into the parking lot and played soccer with it for a while, kicking it around the tarmac. Then they set fire to it with gasoline.

If I remember right the production version of that guitar is known as the "James Tyler Studio Elite Burning Water guitar". Google that phrase for a look. The finished piece is very artfully done, mind you...

Cheers - C

Dont do it to anything you want to use again.

Notice the heat cracks round the trem section and the disintergration of the neck pocket.

Hey Ninja: that looks like an excellent method for discovering the location of your body seams:

Don't worry, I'll get that body up and running for you if you like! Sounds like a challenge, don't it? Send it over: I'll do you a nice ZZDoc Bruise-ocaster...
