hey guys I was wondering....when I bought my strat I bought the Raven 20 W amp with the 12 inch speaker. It has the usual reverb/echo/distortion stuff plus an on board tuner but I was wondering if I should trade it in for a Fender G-Dec due to the fact that it has the backing tracks and some other bells and whistles. The G-dec does not have a 20 W 12 inch speaker so that's the drawback....what would you do?

If you gat rid of it get yourself a nice five watt tube amp.

I bought a G-DEC but had to return it because it didn't work. After five minutes it just cut out and went silent.

The G-DEC 30 is an amazing amp!

You can program it to get the sounds/tones that you like as well as compose or download midi files to it for jamming along with. Don't let the size fool you either, it's loud, especially with some of the patches that you can come up with. I made one patch that I call "ToneScreamer" and it combines overdrive, compression, EQ and delay.

Sounds like that amp does everything.

With an amp that can sound like anything you like, do you care what kind of pickups you have?

Jay when you hear the sounds Mike gets out of his Gdec you'll be amazed. He recorded a solo onto one of my bands rough as hell rehearsall tracks. A truely blistering guitar tone. Mike should be employed by fender to demo such products.

Stratman,
I've got one of the 20watt G decs and they are fun to practice with. They have had some problems however. The first one I had after about 6 months started cutting out and had problems with the channel selector. I returned it and Fender gave me a new one. I have not had problems since. I keep it in the bedroom with one of my guitars to noodle on and practice scales. I do not gig with it, but it does have some nice effects if you want to spend the time messing with it. Most of the presets will get you what you want in the sound dept. I like it and glad I got it but nothing beats the sound of my ProTwin tube amp from clean to cream to crunch.

I think The GDEC 30 has more features than mine so you might want to take a look at it.

(Niki where's that Track Mike laid down? I'd like to hear it...)

Hey guys thanks for the info. My initial mission was to find some ORIGINAL backing tracks that I could keep as my own...I could not find any decent r&b/jass/smooth rock backing tracks so I figured the G-Dec might do it. So is there any info on backing tracks you guys could share?

Guys i'm really sorry. It was a rough recording of my current band at one of our rehearsals. I simply stuck a zoom h2 in the middle of the room and pressed record. I emailed it to Mike because of his interest in the recorder. He slapped a cracking solo on it. The recording of my band is far too rough to share, sorry guys.

The stuff we have recorded proper wouldnt interest you its all brass section and very little guitar. Give us a couple of months to get stuff sorted properly and i'll post a website link. Were still at a very formative, foundation building stage.
