I have a 1998 American Strat with the Corona, CA neck plate, maple neck, tilt-adjust mechanism and two-point floating trem.

It is a very odd color, though. It looks like a metallic plum, or kind of a metallic purple. I've taken the guitar apart and it's definitely a Fender body, so an after-market body seems to be ruled out, but I don't recall ever seeing this color anywhere. Every "knowledgeable" Strat enthusiast I know can't place the color, either (although, granted, my circle is not the definitive resource).

Does anyone have any ideas/info as to what this color could be?

Much appreciated!
- Don

I think the color your refering to is called burgandy mist. Check the fender color chart.

I think I've seen that color. A friend of mine has a Mexican Tele that sounds like it's the same color. It's like a darker metallic purple, real flashy. I love it, though.

If it's darker than the Burgandy Mist, it may be Midnight Wine.

Are you sure the finish is original and the guitar was never repainted?

I recently saw a dark purple strat at a local guitar store. It was definitely purple and not wine red. It was a Jeff Beck Model.

I have seen some limited run guitars in a national chain music store that were dark red with high sparkle, they did however have matching headstocks.

ya never know what you will find when it comes to limited run stuff .

IIRC, an older Beck model (when he was using Lace Sensors) was available in burgandy mist. This is a really sweet color IMHO!

The Beck color was much darker than burgandy mist; it was a true purple color.

I think the old American Standard color was either Midnight Plum or Midnight Purple. These are the times when I wish I had kept all those old Fender Frontline magazins/catalogs from back in the day. :(
