+1 on the "Startocaster" replacing the (not)Starcaster, and bring back the old Starcaster...
As for Strat players, Jimi, Jeff, Rory, Greeny (many songs on Strat) and Richard Thompson.

As to the question at hand, that's tough. Gilmour and Clapton are still alive and SRV and Hendrix are gone. Time to start flipping coins!

These days I lean towards Rory Gallagher and Walter Trout.

This is a hard one for me.

Has to be between SRV and Eric Clapton. I can't forget other of my favorites
like:

Jeff Beck
Eric Johnson
John Mayer

Didn't Buddy Holly also use one at times?!?

100% agreed. Love what he brings to the Stones.

You gotta hear "Gimme Some Neck"... AWESOME solo LP by Woodie from the Stones "Some Girls" era...

Ritchie Blackmore.

There is a good biography available on Blackmore now by Jerry Bloom. It's a good read. If your a Deep Purple, or Rainbow fan its a good read for insight ther also. Ritchie was the fastest player, in his day, and everyone knew it. He liked to show it off.

I like Eric Clapton a great deal also, his early stuff, 1960's, early 1970's but he got off track, "I shot the Sheriff" etc. More "popish" and less "rockish". His autobiography is quite good, towards the end he admits he is almost totally deaf.

Peter Townsend, Jeff Beck and EVH all have severe hearing damage.
