What are your opinions on the MIM Strats. My sister wants to take up guitar and I think I may suggest one. Are they high quality guitars and do they sound even close to a MIA Strat?
The store in my area has them for sale $495 Canadian.

Their great guitars. Probably too good to learn on. They sound like what they are, a strat. Gigged, recorded with mine more times than i can remember. Its still a mainstay in my arsenal despite owning much more expensive guitars. Like all guitars a good price and a good guitar aren't mutually exclusive.

This sums it all up! I choose my MIM as my #1 guitar.

Take the words "Mexican" and "American" out of the equation and what are we left with?

A company making products at a variety of price points.

Looked at this way we can choose the features we want and decide how much we are prepared to pay for them without worrying about things that don't matter.

Cheers - C

That has to be the best answer on this much repeated discussion i've ever read.

I second this. It is brief, concise, to the point and most logical.

Take this with a grain of salt. I am a newbie. A VERY NEWbie. I purchased a leftover 2008 MIM Strat from elderly instruments and I couldn't be happier. You'll get a great guitar to learn on and one that should take you well past the learning process (heck, if you treat it right..it should last you forever). Add to the fact that there are soooo many ways and parts available to modify its sound and appearance..it is a no -brainer. Get a nice (maybe even a used one in great condition) strat and make it your own. Let us know what you end up buying and remember..post pictures !

As in other post higly recommend MIMs now as the matter of fact some higher end Squiers are as good. Guitar players are so lucky to be able to obtain such a great instrumnets for affordable price. I am looking to invest in piano for my son and those baby grand Yamaha used ones are going for $8,000-10,000 (hmmmmm 3 custom shop brand new Strats).

Agreed to all of the above. Further, a nice MIM Strat is good enough such that it never need to be outgrown as it is easily customizable ... no matter how good your sister gets.

My MIM is a good solid guitar. I wanted one when I was a beginner, but I got a Squier instead because that's what I could afford. A few years later I got my MIM. My only gripe with it is that I had to replace the pickups (I didn't like the stock ones too much). The new ones could be different though, mine's a 2004. But overall it's a really great guitar. :D
