Hello All:

I am a newbie here and at playing. Just bought a new American Stratocaster and changed out the pick guard right before I walked out of the music store. Back of the old guard (the one that was shipped with it) says a date of 3/16/07 with signatures of who assembled, solder and inspected it.

Excited about my ‘new venture’, I later ran the SN on the web and it says the guitar was manufactured in 2006 (Z6 was the start of the number). So which is it? 2007 or 2006? Not that it matters (just curious) – I still plan on learning how to play. :-)

I'm gonna go for a wild guess and say 2006 :p

At least you can pin point your guitar's date within a year. My Jazz Bass coulda been made in 1990 or 1999!! Some guy at the fender factory accidentally put 1999 serials on a bunch of 1990 made guitars :/

Sometimes neck and bodies are manufactured before other parts
like the pickguard.
Your guitar was put together in 2007, i asume.
Serial numbers can span 2 years like MZ6 = 2006/2007.

Its sort of like a new car - you want bragging rights. You know - its like leaving the sticker on the window so everyone know its new....:)

and telling them its a 2007 model has a better tone to it (no pun intended).

Lessons start new next week and I don't think the date of it will matter. :)
