Hello

I saw this strat for sale but it seems odd to me. :!:

The vendor gives me the serial which is MZ5XXXXXX. (made in Mexico 2005-2006) He told me that he bought this guitar more than a year ago in a shop and that he made this “relicking” himself.

Here are some pictures.

The seller pretends that it’s a classic 60’s strat; but I’m pretty sure that it isn’t. :?

Firstly the neck is a classic 50’s one (maple and the truss rod dot on the head)

Secondly the pickgard doesn’t match neither with a classic 60’s nor a classic 50’s. To me, this pickgard looks like a standard strat one.

Thirdly the colour don’t match with the model (electric blue?)

Don’t you thing that this guitar is a sort of a “Dr Frankenstein guitar” made of various spare parts?
Or am I completely wrong :?:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Its not a classic 60's. If the seller has been disproved on the first point walk away cos theres something dickie going on. Or offer them $150 for that very poor diy relic job.

Friends don't let friends use belt sanders.

Bog almighty, that is hideous. I wouldn't give you fifty bucks for it now.

I know that I'm being excessively picky, but leaving aside the butchering that is presumably intended to replicate the wear caused by a flailing lunatic with peculiarly abrasive forearm hair...never trust someone who can't be bothered tuning their high E string up to pitch for the sake of a photo, or who has an incipient -- no, wait, an actual -- knot in their guitar lead.

 Stay away far away... That instrument needs far more TLC than any price he' asking. It was most likely at one time a MIM Standard Blue Agave that someone slapped another neck on. Tell him to give you $50.00 and you'll take it off his hands.

Haha - indeed!

And ditto to everything else that's already been said.

I'd require more than $50 to take it off the sellers hands, because it will cost more than that to put right the mess it's in.

Robox80, just for laughs, would you tell us how much is being asked for this unhappy Strat?

Cheers - C

Welcome to the Forum.

As others have said that is just not right. Some people should stay away from power tools.

I know it has already been said, but how could anyone think about selling a guitar with the e-string strung up backwards and with that sand job. Wow.

I have stated many time I am not a fan of relicing and that goes with custom shop guitars as well. But at least I can appreciate a job well done and the creative detailing that goes into it when done right . That looks like a 13 year old did it, and all it looks like is someone got a sander and went wild on a guitar body. I mean has anyone ever saw a guitar that looked like that naturally. Hey if you like the relic look go get a road worn guitar at least you know it is done right.

Thanks for your answers.

This “relicking” is outrageously hideous; it’s nearly an offense for every single guitar lover.:?
This guy is probably some kind of a psycho-lumberjack.

I thought that, if the seller makes me a fair price, it could be a good start for a repainting.

But you’re right, too much strange things about this guitar, I’ll better forget about it then.

I hadn’t noticed the curious E string…

That has to hands down be one of the worst "relic" jobs I have ever seen. If you can even call it that!!!

No guitar deserves this kind of abuse.
