i purchased this guitar and they set it up put lemon oil on fretboard and adjusted everything and it plays great. I have the rosewood fretboard.
My concern is I changed strings on it tonight and got a close look and there are a few cracks in the rosewood. It was a close out so I can't return it I think Fender is not making the Highway Ones any more. This is a beautifull guitar and plays really nice. I really like it. Am I doomed.
I have had it a couple of days but like I say I got it from guitar center on a close out and can't return it.
I am not having much luck with guitars lately. Had to return a VG Strat needed the neck adjusted and took it to my teck and the rod is I guess you would say bottomed out. So I go the Highway One. Like I said I love the guitar but worried about the cracks in the rosewood.
Thanks

It is still coverd by Fender. Are they cracks or just grain markings?

I am an avid fan of GC and their customer service. Close out or not, you should still be able to return it. Did they have another like it to exchange it with?

No they don't have another one and they are cracks Part of the problem I tried a couple of Guitars and didn't like them and took them back. I got a Deluxe Players Strat and the frets were so sharp I almost cut myself sliding down the neck.
I got a VG Strat and need a neck adjustment and when the checked it the rod was bottomed out with no more adjustment. So I took it back today and got the Highway One on a closeout and they said I had to keep this one I had to understand I could not return it.
I am one if you have a 30 day policy if I don't like it it is going back. There are other things I have taken back but I have bought alot of things.
I e-mailed Fender hopefully they can help me.
It seems over the years I have heard of this happiening on rosewood fretboards and it is pretty common. I'll get a hold of a tech monday. According to a repair book I got not to much of a problem to fix.
Thanks

I mainly use maple necks. Tech said it is normal for rosewood to crack when they start drying out to use the lemon oil every string change.
Checked other rosewood necks and they all had cracks to some degree. Mine is looking pretty decent now. Guess I wasn't use to seeing cracks.
Guitar looks good and plays good now.
Thanks

Wow, that is quite the string of bad luck.

It seems like YOU are the Quality Control Inspector!
