I've seen a few of them hung on the wall and upon inspection, they look great. It does have the upgraded features on there that wasn't available on the older Mexican models. Anyone own the newer model that can help this guy out?

Mine is an 08 and the only difference I noticed between the 08 and 08 is looks. The logo decals on the headstock are different and "Made in Mexico" and the serial numbers are now on the back. And, of course the price has gone up quite a bit. They are now about $100 - $150 more than they were last year. For your money, I would look for any left overs from 2008.

That;s great and thanks for the input but does anyone "own" an 09..has anyonee ver A and Bd these with the older models and the price just dropped to a reasonable level, $499 for a sunburst model isn't rediculous if it really ha sbeen upgraded and that's my point here does anone have one with the upgrades or played one at great length to compare them I would appreciate any helpfull reply Also the Highway ones are on sale for 699 too... but I would prfer to spend 499. I had a500 budget for a guitar and this seems to fit

Hello Makinglemonade,

I compared them both side by side{I own neither}.
The 09 was louder than the 08
The tone was the same for both,
Both had nicely finished bodies,
the 09 neck was way, way better
nicer finish & better fret dressing.

Bottom line if I had the 100 more,
I'd buy the 09.

Please, post a photo if you get one,
everyone likes guitar pics.

Cheers.

all the big upgrades were already done in 2006.
the only thing i know that was done now was
a decal change and a few minor things. all the
major stuff like i said was done in 2006.

The only thing that was changed between the two ins the neck tinted satin on the neck and the logo. And they say the pickguard parchment different but thats it. I set 3 up doing the week that were sold last Saterday for fender day along with some others. They are not bad guitars. If you are looking around, now is the time one of our good members let me on of a place that had HWY's for less then that and sure enough they did.

They are great guitars. That includes the older ones, too. My '04 screams, and that is just one of many here in the forum that are just as good. File under "can't go wrong".

+1 Hi there Makinglemonade,

I bought an '09 MIM Black and Maple Strat a week ago and the neck was definitely finished nicer and felt way better than a couple of '08's that I tried, just like "Mr Bill" stated in his post. It was worth the extra money for an '09 Strat. I would post a picture if I knew how, but this is my first post so I need to see how to do that. :D

They're definitely excellent value for the price.

Are you guaranteed to get an '09 model if you order or buy a new MIM standard in candy apple red or lake placid blue? I believe these two colors were not available until very recently for the MIM standard Strats...

I bought a candy apple red mexican last year so I don't know if that'll help. If my serial # doesn't have a 9 where is's suppose to it's going back.

My new MIM Strat's Serial # that I bought a week ago starts with MZ9XXXXXX, the 9 of course following the MZ say's it's a '09 model. I didn't know that until the salesman at Sam Ash explained to me how you can tell by the Serial # what year it was manufactured. :D
