Dear All
First let me say hello. I have just joined this forum.
I am a beginner in the UK and have always wanted a US made Fender. I been offered a second hand fender highway. I have been offered one that is supposed to be genuine in trans wine or burgundy ( seller not sure the exact name) with HSS upgrade. but when I looked at the picture I became somewhat puzzled. The volume knobs are white and the 2 single pickups white and the double bridge pickup is black. Having looked at the Fender brochures and guitar images that I could find I have noticed that all volume knobs are black and the pick ups are all black. Seller assured me everything is original.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

what year? my hss is all black except the pickguard, he prob switched it out, That would be my least concern, i would play the guitar check it out, make sure the knobs aren't loose, or the truss rod is twisted, make sure there is no massive dings etc... you can always replace the plastic parts :)

oh and make sure he included the whammy bar... mine the seller didnt include it as he said it was optional lol

good luck mate
and welcome to the forums

HI
Thanks for all your help
I used the term upgrade by mistake. What I meant to say it was HSS model. So I guess he must have just added the HSS pickup to a standard H1 Strat?
If so describing all original parts may be a bit misleading. I can't play it since it is a distant internet purchase. But I have return option and paypal protection.

if he really wants to make a sell, send him a txt saying you want more description on the guitar any other installs, ask him if he blocked the trem, like my seller did, i nearly broke the guitar because he put a piece of block near the trem.

i would go to a guitar store and play the guitar you want to bid on, thats what i did, also if hes honest he wont have any problems in telling you more.

I have been very blessed that my guitars( two esp's, tele, prs, highway1 hss, all worked great ) from buying on ebay.

the only thing is if you do get the guitar take it to your local guitar shop and have it set up and fixed, i had to do that to mine.

Maybe "upgrade" means modified.

For what its worth, I dont believe there were Fender offered "upgrade" options for the Hwy1. It came in an SSS and HSS configuration, I believe. In either case, I believe the pups and covers should all be the same color.

So, if your has different color pickups, its probably been modified.

Modifications dont necessarily mean inferior or low quality. But you need to know what has been modified and what is on that guitar before you buy it.

In late 2006 Fender offered all Highway 1's in an "upgraded" version.

actually bigjay, "upgrade" term is used when the modelwas upgraded from 2005-2006. my model is an upgraded 2006 hwy sss. also taken in complete context, the seller says it has all original parts.
it most likely is a 2006-07

Thank you all for your help.
I am thinking of letting this pass. From what I gathered here since the pickups are different colour then it must have been modded. If so why describe it all original parts or not mention the mod in the first place. So better be cautious and let it pass. And wait for another to turn up.
Thanks again

The highway one does not have rolled edges.

My HSS Highway One (a late 2005) has white colored plastics & pickups as you described. So it may be original.
