I've upgraded my pickups in a spare guitar to the new SCN noiseless strat pickups. Thought I'd try them on a cheapie before i make any changes to my beloved strat or Tele. Ok so its a 2008 Squire and now it sounds so dull. I believe it has 250k tone pots in it. Should I change the pots to match these new SCN pickups. I read somewhere that fender were using a 1meg tone pot or somthing. Please help me. Cheers Mick

The deluxe and vintage hotrod both use 250k pots for all 3 controls. Neither of those guitars suffer a dull sound so you may want to look at the setup of your guitar.
However its a tremendous idea to muck about with the pots to find exactly which ones you prefer.

I sympathise Mick.. I put SCNs into my recently acquired Highway 1 Strat - I didn't like the stock Alnico Vs it came with (all bite but no body). With the SCNs It sounded.. OK.. but nothing special. The body was there but no guts. My MIM Strat sounded better. I went round and round in circles researching the endless 250k v 500k v 1meg debate, and thats just the volume pot. Then there's other debates about what tone pots/caps to use. My Tech weighed in and told me not to be an eejit and leave the pots well alone. He actually refused to fit a 500k volume pot for me, saying it would screw up the response I got as the volume was turned down.. Honestly, it was doing my head in. I've had great results in the past with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro, so I had the SCNs whipped out and a set of these fitted. Excellent resuts - beautiful tone and an end to the wretched debates. I'm a happier man now, but i do miss the incredible noise reduction offered by the SCNs - supernaturally quiet..

I might try the SCNs in one of my Squiers and maybe experiment myself with different pot values at some stage - if only because the SCNs cost me a good sum of cash!

Guys i almost hate to suggest this but did you experiment with pickup heights? I experience non of the problems you guys are talking about. Infact i get nearly as much bite out of my scns as i do vintage noiseless but with as you say 'added body'.
One thing i cant do with scns is get the neck and bridge pickups at the same perceived output and still keep good tone at the neck. My neck pickups are near flush with the pickguard and bridge pickup is near the strings.
Also have you tried a no load tone pot. My deluxe and custom classic both have no load tone pots and seem to provide a tab more treble in comparison to my vintage hotrod.
