This is taken from guitar buyer magazine OCT,04

Slash says-In my early days I had a killer 58 Strat I got for just about nothing it was black and sounded amazing.I took it apart so many times I could never get it back to where it once was. That was the only Strat I really liked, otherwise Strats are unpredictable and tend to be really bad sounding on the average and so I dont have time for dealing with that $@!&.Les Pauls are something I am very comfortable with.I think the sound of a good Strat surpasses all other guitars for me, they are amazing screaming lead guitars but you have to have the right one and I am so comfortable with the Les Paul that I can work around its limitations, rather than deal with the unpredictability of the Strat.

Interesting he says if you have the right one it surpasses every other guitar but because there finicky he rather deal with the limitations of a Les Paul. Gibson must of loved hearing that lol.He also says he is a Tele fan and used one when he recorded God Bless America with Ray Charles.

it's kind of funny that he loves his les pauls, since is main one in the 80's wasnt even a les paul but a custom.kris derrig was slash's ghost builder and pretty much built him replica gibsons.

I think it's funny how he says he hates strats, yet his strat is the better sounding one lol

Theres plenty of far more accomplished/successful musicians that use strats on a daily basis. Who really cares about the opinion of some longhair who co wrote a decent album in 88 and has done nothing of note since.
Nice slightly sharp bends but thats about it.

Oddly, I've seen him quoted as saying that nothing sounded better than a distorted Strat and read that he used one for much of "Appetite for Destruction." Oh well, at least he's a Kossoff fan.

With all the money he has and has had, he could have had this one and only 'perfect' 58 Strat of his replicated or even exceeded many times over. Maybe it's me, but I always thought that guy was way too full of himself.

Unless you listen to his Jazz work. Most people are unaware of the fact that he is a very accomplished Jazz Guitarist.

They play his stuff on a local jazz station here all the time. I'll see if I can find some links and get back to you.

YES Slash used to go sit in with Les Paul AT Iridium's in N.Y he played every Monday for like 25 years there and I remember Slash saying the first few times he got schooled heavy but he kept popping up. I guess he must of stood with it because I did not know he made any jazz recordings. Always like to see someone love guitar that much they study something outside there comfort zone.I know Brian Setzer who can read and write started his orchestra with a bunch of jazz guys who used to ask him to sit in more or less being snobs and he took them up one day and shocked them.He also used to take lessons from Sinatras guitarist when he was doing the orchestra then again he is off the chart as a player.

Randy Rhodes is another one. He was working on Classical Guitar before the plane crash. If I remember right he had almost completed a degree program in Classical also.

Interesting. For me, it's the other way around. I found better sounding strats when looking for a strat more so than finding a good sounding LP from a bunch of the other LP's.

Both are killer in there own way. When recording I'll use a Les Paul for a beefy low end and bring the strat over the top to make it sing.
