Hey, Thanks for the replies, I bought the JM on ebay, and when it arrived, I could find no "USA" on it anywhere, and it made me suspicious that it was of "third world" manufacture. Why do they not brand it USA? It would be a great selling point (to this American at least).

I'm with you strat2004. I don't think he's that great, but I think Fender realized that he has a huge fan base. His guitars are probably being bought by players and collecters. Kenny Wayne Shepard and Ritchie Blackmore are both way more accomplished musicians than John Mayer and their guitars are made in Mexico.

because, most people know it as fact that it is a USA-made guitar. and I think "Made in USA" marked on it would ruin the elegance of it.

@maX: YOU call John talentless, yet he is the one with 6 grammys, a huge fan base, 5 albums, his own cruise, and a life? I didn't know you had that stuff too, man.
You have to look past the songs and look at the complexity of the riffs and intonation of what he plays. his speed and dexterity are incredible. not to mention the sounds he gets from his Two-Rocks.

now, I'm not one to argue and rip people for not liking someone, because it is their own opinion. but when someone insults a hard worker like John, they have gone too far.

Chanman246,

By your standards, anybody out there who made money singing chick songs must be a great guitarist, and we should measure the success of our lives by those people.

By mine, well...not. Hey, John Mayer deserves everything he has. I'm very glad he gets so many girls to like his music, and I admire how many of them he's able to take to bed.

But as a guitarist he doesn't even belong in the same sentence with Ritchie Blackmore. Anybody with basic guitar experience and some practice could play the blues-based sloppy cliches JM plays all the time. IMO, the only difficult part of mastering JM's style would be not getting asleep in the process. His tone is nothing out of the ordinary either.

In the context of the point I was making, "borderline talentless" is not an insult. He might not be THAT bad, but by comparison to one of the gods of the Stratocaster, he's virtually non-existent. I stand by what I said about his MIA model vs. Ritchie's MIM.

I'm sorry you took it so bad, man...peace.

M.
