My first one was a red wannabe Kramer/Ibanez. It had a whammy bar and a single humbucker. It played so bad, it almost made me stop playing the guitar. Then a friend of mine let me try out his dad's 58 Fender Strat. From then it was on, I was going to get a Strat!

My dad gave me his "old" Silvertone (he bought from Sears) when I was a mere babe; mostly to bang on. It was blue and had the lipstick case pups. Couldn't tell you what happened to that guitar... nonetheless, the one I still have, that I love the most, is my 83 Std Strat; all original, soulful, and buttery. Wouldn't trade it for.....

Peace,
84

First Guitar I ever owned was a Futurama II, tremolo was from a folded bit of spring steel, bridge had brass inserts to ensure frequent string breakages from erosion, the neck was a very short scale, and it was far from being a class sound, but I wish I still had it. :)

Currently have a Highway 1 ssh sunburst which I have polished the finish to a high gloss as I didn't like the satin finish. I also have American Standard 1996 which I have fillled in the "swimming pool" cavity with brazilian Walnut, and it produces an absolutely superb tone now. Didn't like the colour of this and now have a tung oiled and danish oiled natural wood finish.

A black Silvertone Strat copy that came in a starter pack. The amp's awful and I replaced it pretty quickly, but the guitar itself sounds great, especially after a pickup change, and I still play it pretty much daily.

'78 Mustang - sat in my inlaws basement for 15 years, my brother-in-law, who now lives in Ireland says - hey I have a guitar at my parents if you want to try it out...a year later and four more guitars...I'm hooked.

My first guitar was an acoustic and for the life of me don't remember the brand. I hated that guitar. The strings were so far above the frets I didn't want to play it. Seriously, it was bad. (Note that I have never and will never do that to my children when they want to learn.)

My first electric I bought from my late best friend (who passed while we were in high school) for $75. I don't remember that brand either.

The first guitar I ever bought for myself and still have to this day was a 1982 Ibanez Roadstar 2 from MAE music in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. A Strat copy. I wanted a Fender sooooo bad, but I was only bussing tables in the summer trying to save up for college. This is not the best picture, but here goes anyway ...

My first guitar, bought new in 1973.

1973 Léro Model 58 Dreadnought

A Korean made guitar that I paid $125-150 for in a small music store in the East Village of NYC (now long gone).

Still plays well and sounds fine.

My first guitar was and is a squire by fender strat made in korea in the early-mid 90's.

I have a question, I am make a partscaster out of it and i recently took it apart and i came across something weird. I think the body is plywood.

I see layers of wood on top of each other...is that ply? and will it affect my building of my guitar?

Your story is the same as mine. the family acoustic was unplayable super cheap garbage(I think they were the inspiration for the crap Esteban sells now!)

I too saved up as a teen and got an Ibanez roadsatr II.

My Roadstar 2 is an '86. Yours is very 'Strat-like' mine is a more typical heavy metal 'Super Strat' with 2 humbuckers.
This is my refinishing thread:

A wierd coincidence is i got the idea for the paintjob from a guy with the user name Donw on another forum.

deth crimsonx ... that is interesting ... you should start a new forum topic asking about the laminated body. I have never seen that before. A big block of wood is more expensive than laminating, or blocking and gluing smaller parts together.

Oh man I think Esteban's was about 10 times better than this thing ... "playing till your fingers bleed" was not an exaggeration in the least.

Cool Ibanez ... we'll have to start another thread of Eighties Ibanez Strat copies, or something ...
