Im considering buying a Sienna sunburst American standard Strat with a maple neck but during my "research" the only pictures of the guitar i found from various sites including the fender site showed it with 21 frets instead of 22 and all of the other maple neck american standards had 22 frets as well as the rosewood of the same colour, im just wondering if theres any reason why, or if it actually does have 21 frets? just so i dont end up ordering it and find out im missing a fret. (ive already gotten frustrated reaching for the 'phantom fret' on my MIM 72 tele deluxe reissue)

Thanks

P.S. im sure ill upset some of the purists but im planning on ordering a Tortise pickguard for it since i always thought it would be a nice contrast between the lighter clearcoat sunburst ash and maple neck.

He's right. It's weird. The pictures the Sienna Sunburst American Standard Strat with a maple neck show 21 frets. But the specs say 22 frets. I bet it's just the picture that's messed up and that the stores all have these with 22 frets. It's not the first time the picture on the web site is messed up. For the longest time, the picture of the Jimmie Vaughan model had a pickguard with a different number of screws than the actual production models you'd find in a store. (BTW, AMS shows it with 22 frets. I'll be checking MF and SA next.)

actually now that i think about it i notice all the pics seem to have the Custom shop logo on the end of the headstock, maybe they decided to just use one picture of the guitar just to demonstrate what the colour scheme would look like and the other websites ive checked (Ie musicians friend) use the picture off the fender site and just rotate it to make it look like a different pic?

Well i'd pay standard price and demand a customshop from them then.
Its false advertizing otherwise. :D

That's 'contour body' amigo. 8) It's likely been there longer than you've seen daylight. The Custom Shop crest is always found on the back of the headstock in the same location.

On the question of these fretboards, having owned both 21 and 22 fretted guitars in both maple and rosewood, I prefer a solid maple 21 fret neck

That doesnt look like a picture of an actual guitar, it looks like a computer image, like the ones they use when you're spec'ing a build, if thats the case, then they usually just have a stock neck image to put on it.

Well, how odd. And it clearly says "Made in USA" on the top, it ain't that a picture of a MIM got used by mistake. (I seem to recall some MIMs coming with Sienna Sunburst, perhaps as a special order or something...)

I notice that the rosewood 'board Sienna finished US Strat is correctly shown with 22 frets. This phrase no doubt explains the situation: "Product Prices, Features, Specifications and Availability Are Subject To Change Without Notice".

Anyhow. I have a Sienna Sunburst American Strat and it definitely has 22 frets. Buy that guitar with an easy mind...

Cheers - C

Recall the photos of your guitar. Wish GC had done the FSR Deluxe VG in that instead of the Aged Cherry. The former shows the grain better.
