Since the Blues Junior is such a popular/great amp, I thought it might be cool for everyone to share their settings. I'll start:

Treble, Mid, and Bass:~9
Master, Volume: ~3
Reverb:~2
Fat switch on

into an analogman tube screamer for drive w/ Tone 11:30 Drive 11:50 Level 1:30

Hey! A Strat and a Blues Jr. is a good combination! I don't have the Bjr, I use a Marshall small combo amp. So take this into consideration, it seems to me you're cranking your EQ, but cutting your volume. I would try lowering the EQ to 5 on all, then raising the Vol. with no Fat.

I have tested the Bjr, and have reccommened it to one of my friends who did buy it, and it's great with his Strat, for what he does (coffe shops, bookstores, etc...) It's not to my personal taste because I want an amp can do a little larger gig on it's own, not PA'd.

Anyway with that combination of guitar and amp, someone more familiar than I am with it will chime in here soon.

Keep Stratin'!

I've also have a Blues Jr. Mine's the tweed version with the Jensen. It has a small placard pinned to the back that says "Genuine Limited Edition Amplifier." I don't know what's limited about it but I do love the amp. I'm always fooling with the settings depending on what type of vibe or feeling I'm after. I guess you could say I'm looking for the tone to fit the song or the feelings I want to express through the song and my playing. Currently I've got it set up for JLH's "Boom, Boom". I'm definitely gonna make some big/small changes b/c I'm not entirely happy with the tone and I also want to make it more of my own but right now I've got: My American Deluxe on Pos 4 with S1 activated T2 6.5 straight into the amp: Rvb 4 Mast 5 Mid 9.5 Bass 3.5 Treb 6 Vol 7.5 Fat Switch disengaged. Contol the break up with the guitar volume. Keep in mind this is bedroom level with no one else home. Although it is a bit loud. I find the BJr. to be very middy but I think the Jensen goes along way in keeping it from becoming too muddy. I've played the tolex version and had some problems with the muddiness but keep in mind that I only played it for 5 min. at the most so I'm in no place to form an opinion on that issue. Overall I love my amp although I know there are both lovers and haters of the BJr but in my opinion its up to you to buy what you like. And I'm sure most on this forum agree with that. Recently I've been looking at a 1987? Marshall JCM 800 because nikininja continues to extoll the virtures of that amp at every opportunity (kidding) and from what I've heard I really like the sound of that eardrum buster. I'm also digging the Egnater Rebel. Seems very versatile. I really like them both even though they are both two completely different amps for two different applications. My funds are low now because of my recent Deluxe purchase so it will be awhile before I get anything new. Hang tight and I will post some more of my setting for different styles later. I've got them written down somewhere. I hope more people participate in this topic because I'm interested in what settings they use for what applications. I'd also dig it if nikininja gave me some settings for his JCM so I could plug it into my L6 Vetta and see what comes out. That Vetta is a pretty cool amp. Lots of knob twiddling but you can get some excellent sounds. But enough for now. Lets see some more of you Blues Jr. owner post your thoughts.

Russ stick with the vetta mate. Its a superb amp when your prepared to work the amp. I gigged a pod v2 into a marshall power amp for a good while. Just so i didnt take loads of room up in the back of the van (where we had to sleep too). Sounded great and was reliable as hell. Not something you'll get out of a 87 marshall thats been used. Jcm800's are good when you can turn them up. Even with attenuators they lose tone. I suspect its the pressure the volume puts on the speaker. Anyway marshall are far too expensive in America to be considered a good amp. The prices they charge you guys makes em pirates in my book. Its not like their shipped from england anymore. You get em from china just the same way we do.
Ok i'll open my 2203 up tomorrow and check for a 'made in' sticker.

nikininja,
The biggest problem with the Vetta is the lack of dynamics one would usually get with a tube amp. I guess I'm saying that right. You pick a string softly and it sounds the same as if you really dig in. The only difference is that its not as loud as when you really hit the string. The distortions and overdrive the amp produces are a bit processed aswell but I can live with that as I usually play pretty clean with a touch of grit. Don't get me wrong it is a wonderful amp. I am probably being overly critical as most wouldn't even notice this stuff. I do love it and have had alot of fun playing with it and turning knobs. It does take alot of time to dial in your tones but when you finally get it you are nicely rewarded with sonic goodness. And yes I would probably have to rob a bank to be able to purchase a real JCM. But a boy can dream can't he?

WTH; I play through the DRRI and Bj NOS in parallel, or switch between the two, via a Lehle Little Dual amp switch pedal (it's got an isolation xfmr in the signal path, eliminates ground loop hum). Awesome.

This arrangement has darn near the output of a Twin Reverb split in half w/each hunk in one corner of the room. I could bring that corner of the house down if I wanted to.

OOh what's the rickenbacker? I have always wanted to add one to my collection, but for some reason never have.

Fender Blues Jr. NOS
Fender American Standard Ash Strat
Takamine Limited Edition 2002 Acoustic

Master: 4
Volume: 4-5
Treble: 8
Midrange: 4
Bass: 10
Reverb: 10

I like playing the amp clean with lots of reverb. I play through an Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss Chorus, Digitech Flanger, MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay, Boss Digital Delay, Boss Loop Station. I don't like the Digitech Flanger much and will be replacing it with a Boss Flanger as soon as I can.

I rarely use the Fat switch on the amp. The Tube Screamer provides all the distortion I need.

'02 360. Very nice, very high quality. With the Hi-Gain pickups, it's not as uniquey Ricky as one might think. Very versitile, and an awesome all arounder. The Ric-O-Sound is a ball, and the reason I initially went with a 2 amp setup.
