What's the best combination of pickups/amps/pedals/settings to get a tone similar to Rory Gallagher's as exemplified in this video? His bridge pickup sounds great on the main riff/verse parts and his neck pickup sounds incredibly full on the solo. Any help would be appreciated.

can you post the link to the video please.

if its is standard setup then any strat can come pretty close, but he had a 61 strat so that means he prob had alnico 5's in it. If you want to be absolutely perfect though you will remember that his strat was rewired, so that both tone pots had influence over each pickup. im not sure how much effect that had on his sound but im sure it had something to do with it.

Regarding amp's he used mainly a Vox AC30 and a coupple of ibanez TS 808's.

Note he did use many other brands of amp, but i believe he favoured the Vox.

If find though that rory's sound is in his technique. the way he moves from maj to min blues, the way he adds hammeron/pulloffs, thrills, extra notes from the standard scale etc etc. Im not an expert and can only bluff my way through a few of his songs, but he's my fav guitar player and he has taught me that sound comes from the fingers.

again, if you post the video we will be able to help better.

It depends on the period.

Rory used Vox, Fender, and Marshalls along the way.

His sound changed from the early '70s to the late '70s and then beyond.

I like his late '70s hard rock sound a lot!

For the Early to mid seventies wich is my favourite Gallagher sound what you need is Low output Singles a Vox Ac30 and a treble booster...

Later Rory was always changing amps and the pickups in his strat....

Vox AC-30 + Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster (or a clone since the original is hard to find)
