Hey there, I'm originally from Staten Island too!

The EMGs would work VERY well in a Strat for your chosen tastes.

Right!

The single coil EMGs will fit. As to the humbuckers, sometimes the corners of the HB cutout on the pickguard have to be opened up slightly by squaring the corners off a tiny bit. And because Fender uses a two mounting/height adjustment screw design on many of their humbuckers and consequently, pickguards, an additional third hole would have to be drilled between the the existing two on the pickguard for the EMG.

If you choose not to do install the EMGs yourself and need a good tech to do it for you, let me know.

His name is Roy. He is a private tech with 35 years of experience and does it all. He has done extensive work for most of the stores on SI.

I have the very set up that you may like in my HM Strat. It has an EMG 81 humbucker in the bridge position, and 2 SA singles in the mid/neck position. I also have an EMG preamp booster (PA-20 I think) hooked up to it. It is an ultimate hard rock/metal set up. Very quiet even with a high gain amp. When it is time to solo, just flick the toggle switch for up to 20 db of clean, adjustable boost!! Sweeeet!!
I personally LOVE EMG products, and feel they have a great tone and timbre. High build quality, reliable, sound good. What more can you ask??

I know it isn't an EMG but I've been looking into passive metal humbuckers, primarily the DiMarzio X2N and Super Distortion X as well as the Seymour Duncan Dimebucker, and they seem to do the trick. Did any of you look into those or learn anything along the way that pushed you over the edge to EMG?

Way back when, I put DiMarzio Super Distortion pups in a Gibson LP Custom and an Ibanez, and felt they had too much mids, and not enough of a full rounded tone. Really only good for one type of sound. If that is what you want, great, but I needed more versatility in my guitars with the band I was with at the time, so they had to go.
The EMG pickups have a nice, almost hi-fi type of sound that works well in any situation, crunch, clean, hyperdrive, you name it. And with the HSS format, you have a nice palette of sounds to choose from in one guitar.

Hey Deth if you ever want to check out what your strat would sound like with emgs and need someone to do it try Maggio Music on 86st and 18th ave in bklyn they have been there over 70 years and Mike is one of the best techs and players I have seen. Most important he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.I was in there last month and he has a 70s strat he just put emgs in that he fools with in the store that just sounded killer. So as far as a nice fit I heard it for myself and was thinking of throwing them into one of my strats.Good luck

Hey Deth if you want or when ever your ready let me knoe and I will call Mike up and tell him I am sending a friend over and he will do the right thing for you,as I dont go to Sam Ash or GC to get things done.I would advise you the same to make friends in smaller established stores where there not going to force things on you or tell you you need things that you dont and where its fun to sit and shoot the bull about gear.KEEP ON ROCKIN
