ok, so i solved the problem (sort of).

i wired the bottom tone to be a master tone, and scrapped the middle tone all together. in its place a put an on off switch and wired it to the neck pup. sortof ala gilmour.

it works great. I honestly think i just had a bad pot, because i tried all the diff. suggestions and it wouldnt work.
