ok, so im perplexed. I have been wiring up a new guard for a custom build and keep running into this problem.

the bottom tone control (run to the neck right now) works just fine.

but the top tone control (run to the bridge) doesnt change any kind of tone while rolling, until you hit 0, then it cuts out entirely.

its almost like i've wired a mini kill switch. wtf?

I've double, triple, quadruple checked all my wiring, checked all my solders, even had my local guitar tech look over it and everything looks fine! its wired just like all the diagrams tell me too.

yet the middle tone works as a kill switch....

can anyone help me??

thanks to all who respond,
~jag

To be perfectly honest, I don't understand exactly which tone pot(s) is/are malfunctioning. Please describe exactly what you are attempting to wire. Meaning, is it a Strat scheme, a Les Paul or what it is exactly.

Also, if you could post a CLEAR picture of the components and your wiring, that would be a tremendous help.

My bad, i cant believe i didnt mention it, i just put it in the strat section and assumed..

it is a strat set up, and its the middle pot thats not working correctly. the rest of it was me giving too much detail, again, my bad.

this is the best pic i can get, hopefully itll work.

One side of that tonecap needs to go to the pot chassis for one.

I can't see it real good but I think you may have something there niki. I cant make out where the cap is solder to.

There definitely seems to be some confusion with the capacitor. Could you show us one more picture, this time focusing in on the two tone pots terminals. Hopefully, if you can take a picture looking directly down at them.

From what I can see, there is a buss wire from the cap to the pot casing. Look directly above the ground (earth) wire.

Well, it's past my bedtime so I'll leave it to you guys. I'll check back in the A.M.

That cap should be on the lug that has the wire coming from the mid pot then going pot to ground  Did I say that right? Me I would redo again 20 or 30 min why not.

Is that cap going from tone pot lug to tone pot lug?

On the middle pot, the capacitor itself should be placed/wired in between the terminal you used for it and the ground. Currently, you have it wired in between the terminals of both tone pots.

Thats what we were telling him Martian. Have to fix that and move that selector wire to the center lug on the mid pot also when he does the cap. If he follows the diagram I posted he should be fine.
