Which type of stomp box would provide the same effect of the internally installed Claptop Mid-Boost Kit? It's a 25DB boost so I can't think of it as a distortion device, but maybe more along the lines of sustain device? Any recommendations?

It's a "mid-boost" so it's not boosting the entire output, just a band of mid-range frequencies. So I'd opt for an EQ pedal.

You'd need a couple of eq pedals. I use a danelectro 7db and a boss 15db for when i do a string and have to switch guitar. Its not the same but quite close.

Why not put the clapton circuit in a pedal box???

Thats an interesting idea Nick. Alembic used to make a "Stratoblaster" that was wired into the guitar and now I'm finding them on Ebay in a pedal form. Maybe someone's already putting the Clapton mid boost into a pedal.

$95 for an adjustable FET pre?

The same thing, with less noise and more potential gain from EMG costs 30 bucks.

Not only are they turning lead into gold, the alchemy at Alembic seems to include turning guitar players into pigeons.

(BTW, that won't work like a Clapton midboost. It's a full-range boost.)

Demeter Amps makes a Mid boost pedal I think?

I don't know if it's the same thing, but a lot of the Rangemaster clones out there seem to be switchable between Treble- and Mid-Boost. They tend to be germanium-based, though, so they do colour your sound. A slightly gritty shade of brown, I believe.

Is the Clapton mid-range boost designed to push your amp a bit harder, or to add... erm... more mid-range to the actual sound coming from your guitar? Or are those really the same thing? I've never known. My strat ultra's circuit seems to function like a regular tone knob between 1 and 5, and then between 6 and 10 it cuts the bass frequencies to give a sort of treble-boost illusion. I've never really done the research to see how this differs from the Clapton circuit

Slapchop.
Im not questioning what you say about the clap boost being only in the lower mids but i do notice a very definite rise from all frequencies of my guitar. Could it be that the peak is wider than anticipated?

I do have to play all the controls of that guitar to shift from somewhere near strat to full blast solo tone, so maybe its just the way i use it???

My personal opinion of that boost is that its great. From near strat to nearly a les paul in a few turns of a knob near your fingers.
