You also have to remember a large amount of the necks used on th Japanesse made guitars were made by Atlansia for most of the 80's and 90's being sold as Squier or Fender.

It's hard keeping track of all of the various Japanese makers.

Now we have to try to track the Korean and Chinese too!

Thats true, none want to tell or advertise as to who makes there foreign made models now days. You will never hear Fender say what factory makes there overseas models for them like there MIM's because they are outsourced!

okay, further update: single ply pickguard, 8 holes...which kinda blows the '62 body theory, from what I can tell. more like a '57 neck and body. one of these days I'll take it all the way apart and see what else it can tell me...

I was wondering because if it had the round guide it would have been a 50's version model like a 54' and the 57's had the butterfly guide. Not sure about any plastic ones though from the 80's guitars.

Hey Gary,…

It’s an internal factory designation that has no meaning outside of the factory.

I emailed fender as to what this neck code was ,and this is what they said

I think sometimes the necks and bodies were mismatched at the factories. I have a Tele with different stampings on the neck and in the pocket. It could have been changed after it left the factory, but I don't think that it was.
