I have a MIJ Strat, #E922908, and I can't find anything on what the neck and neck pocket numbers mean. It has "ST362V" in the pocket and "ST-357V" on the neck. Anyoen know what they mean or where to find out? Maple neck, Lake Placid Blue, BTW.

I believe you are correct niki! Even MIJ Squier's used some of those parts codes

nope, get her used 10 or 12 years ago. I was wondering if the codes would be something simple, like "ST" for Strat and the numbers having to do with year and neck configuration. by all accounts it's from the '84-87 vintage and I wondered if it wasn't some kind of reissue because of the small headstock and decal style for "Fender" and 'Stratocaster".

Yep the body is off a 62 reissue and the neck is from a 57 reissue. The ST does stand for strat. It sounds like the guitar was pieced together before you bought it. Nice parts on no doubt a very nice guitar. Somewhere someone has the other neck and body making a pseudo knopfler strat 57 body and 62 neck.

Looks like everyone has given you the correct answer.

Would you care to put up some pics so we can take a look at it?

wow, now I can claim it's a custom shop special! riiight...anyhow, thanks for the help, it seems sometimes the simplest explanation is the correct one. tuners and trees are definitely NOT vintage style but it gets a lot of compliments. be glad to post pics when I get around to taking some.

If that's an '80s Made in Japan Strat, then those codes might not indicate that they are for some kind of Reissue.

Rather recently, Fender Japan changed its model numbers to reflect "vintage reissues." Before that, the digits of the model number usually indicated the Retail Price in Thousands of Yen.

That would explain the lack of "vintage" features on your supposed vintage reissue guitar parts.

here's what it looks like, although tuners and tree are wrong on mine: http://www.stratcollector.com/inventory ... erton.html my logos are pure mid-to-late '80's Japanese with the "R" in a circle behind both "Fender" and "Stratocaster" and no "contour body"...as I said, it's not a true reissue but it sure looks the part.

dobesaver, what kind of pickguard does it have (how many ply, how many screws)?

Have you googled ST-362 or ST-357?

could be
http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Squier-'57-Reissue-Neck-MIJ-Japan-with-Tuners_W0QQitemZ150348021218QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20090526?IMSfp=TL090526158001r17914

Are your tuners similar to those?

This would be a bit easier if we could see your guitar.

dead on, niki, although mine does say "Fender" in silver where this one says "squier"...trees are same style and Gotoh tuners as well.

orville, good suggestion, thought I had done so but here's a link that popped up with ST-357:
http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratoc ... asure.html

in any event, it's a great sounding guitar. will try to take and post some pics.

I think Squier and Fender marked guitars have used those numbers on models. You also have to remember a large amount of the necks used on th Japanesse made guitars were made by Atlansia for most of the 80's and 90's being sold as Squier or Fender.

It's hard keeping track of all of the various Japanese makers.

Now we have to try to track the Korean and Chinese too!
