Hi !

Wondering what string height is best for my new Highway 1 upgr.
Fender recommends 5/64 bass side and 4/64 treble side for american/mex std. Is it the same for my highway 1 and all 3 PU's??

What string height do you got on your strat and which PU's.

Brgd's

My classic strat MIM has 5/64 high E and 3/32 low E string height.
PU's 5/64 treble side (bridge PU a little closer) and 3/32 on the bass
side (bridge PU a little closer and neck PU a little lower, about 8/64)
Stringheight measured at the 12th fret.
PU's height measured at last fret (depress both E strings).

String heigth above the 15th fret is what is usually measured, and it is pretty much standard for all Strats. Pickup heigth varies from pickup to pickup as to what is optimal.

In Fenders owner manual bridge height is measured at the 17th fret.
In UK it's the 12th fret, in Holland 12th fret also.

Thanks for the answers.

I know it's not what I wrote but it was actually Pickup Height I was thinking about.

What Pickup height do you use on your strat and what Pickups ??
Fender recommends 5/64 bass side and 4/64 treble side for American/Mexican std. Is it the same for the PU's on my new Highway One ??
What's your experience ??

Best Regards

From the GC music shop, the bridge pickup on my 60th Anniversary year Highway One was too low. It actually sounded pretty good with the mid, but alone it was weak. I put some springs in to stablize the tremolo and that dropped the bridge. When I had the bridge dropped, the bridge pickup came alive. I raised the bridge back a little below factory because the action was too low and I wanted to have the trem to use when I need it. Then I raised the bridge pickup careful to keep both sides even, and I slightly lowered the middle pickup because it was set too high. I then played by ear and it sounded good and so forth. The next day or so, I got out the manual and I checked everything from the 17th fret and whatnot, carefully measuring with a tape measure over a straight edge. All was just exactly Fender's measurements, even though I was basically guessing and going by ear when I dialed it in.

A couple of weeks later I raised the bridge just a little bit more back to Fender's specs, which eliminates any fret buzz for my style of playing and still gives a very low action the way the truss rod on mine is set up. I checked everything again and it still came in dead on Fender specs, with the slight increase in bridge height not throwing it off at all measurably. Now it's dialed in and I just need a better amp.

Here's my strategy on my cheapie solid state amp. My wife's pretty conservative on authorizing guitar money, you know. I dialed back the terrible sounding base and the screechy horrible treble to 4. Then, I took the volume up near 10. It's a 10 watt amp, but now it's low volume on 10 because the only way it gets loud is with the really bad sounding hollow screechy treble. Set up like I have it, it doesn't sound too bad and the Highway One's very versatile between a fat tone and a very articulate tone depending on how the tone controls are dialed in. I'll probably get a Blues Jr. soon.
