Hi guys - anyone with more expert knowledge than me got the answer to this -

I just bought a used Mexican strat (my first actual Fender strat) and I've been trying to look up the serial number. According to the list of dates of Mexican made instruments on this site, the format of these guitars should be, for example;

"MZ6 00000" ie. MZ for made in Mexico, 6 for 2006, then 5 digits.

Now, mine is MZ6 but it has 6 digits on the end. The Fender official list ends on 2005-2006, so maybe the format was changed in the latter half of that year?

By the way, I'm not that bothered, I think it's a great guitar, I've owned several makes and models, I prefer Fenders in general, and as an introduction to Strats, I'm 100% happy with this. I'd just like to know.

Some did have 6 digits, nothing unusual about it mate.

Mine is MZ6 then 6 more digits, Should also have a fender 60 on back of the headstock.
