Hello,

I've been trying to date a John Mayer strat I recently acquired but it has an odd serial that doesn't match any of Fender nomenclature: SE02180. From what I've seen the SE numbers should begin with a 9, not a 0.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,

You might have to take it apart to note dates in the neck pocket, neck heel, under the pickguard, and pot date codes.

Did you buy it new? If you bought it from a private party, it could be a forgery. I'd pull it apart and take a look.

My Cypress Mica JM is SE05410. I take it yours is also. all 500 CM strats start with SE0. or at least all the ones I have examined have.
