It is a separate guitar. I decided to look at that one as well.

I have a bees nest on my hands!

Don't panic! Slow and steady wins the race. Sometimes you are better off just walking away and coming back the next day fresh.

Martian, I can not thank you enough. For one, your patience.

I have yet to start work on the guitars

Well, on the guitar that the mini toggle is on, the selector switch is backwards.

The second guitar, I don't know. I may just replace the selector switch in that guitar as well.

Let this be a warning to all that Guitar Center techs, do not know what they are doing. At least the one that I went to.

No problem. Like I said, when you're fresh again and your patience has been restored, then sit down and resume. Incidentally, there's no rule or law that says you have to complete it all in one sitting. I reiterate: "Slow and steady wins the race!"

Well one guitar is up and running. The mini switch is waiting in the wings.

The selector switch on the other strat that I was working on was broken.
I could not figure it out until I really looked at it today. Turns out one of the poles was bent and on an angle. How this happened is beyond me. And why the heck I never noticed it. So when the blade was switched, it was still in contact with one of the poles because it was at angle. I could not believe it. So I changed the switch with an All Parts switch and she works like she is supposed to.

Took my time soldering, and I am proud of the job. I am glad you guys talked me into it. I do not forsee myself paying anyone to look at my guitars again.

Now I have to go correct the mini switch.

Martian, you were right;)

Thats the spirit. See how easy it can be when your patient and carefull. Just goes to show how overconfidence on part of the GC tech leads to a stupid mistake.

On with it girl. We expect a result from that too.

He usualy is and he shouldnt feel embarrased about me saying so. He no doubt worked hard for such knowledge.

HA! Just catching up: Correna, I've gotta say, I like your attitude. First time I went through what you're doing I gave up half way and found someone to do it for me. Respect!

Correna i suggest you pay good heed to any advice Martian gives. He's quite the wiring/pickup guru.

This is true. And given how fast you're moving on this stuff I expect Forum user Twelvebar will be along shortly to start you off refinishing your guitars. And the modest Mr Nikininja himself will have you building compensated guitar nuts out of raw materials in no time!

It's all fun, isn't it?

I know this is a bit after the event, but I'm not sure anyone has yet pointed you at Fender's own wiring diagrams, just in case you weren't aware they were available:

http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_di ... _lists.php

As you see, the second column over gives you wiring diagrams. Assuming your guitars are regular type Strats then a diagram such as this, for the Standard US Strat, gives you all you need:

http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 02CPg2.pdf

Just thought a picture can sometimes be worth a lot of words...

Good luck - though it doesn't look like you need it!

Cheers - C

This is great news all around, especially when the little guy, or in this case, gal, has proved to the world that she equaled and is easily on to surpassing one of the biggest if not the biggest, chain store's level of guitar tech competence in a matter of hours!

Correna, speaking for virtually all of us:

WE ARE MIGHTY PROUD OF YOU!!!

Now, we continue to anxiously await the outcome of, if I may put a name to it, your, "Gilmour Project".

Correna, again I say, take your time as slow and steady wins the race.

On a secondary note, this thread is 4 pages long so far, how about that?

Note also Ceri forgot to mention his refinish, woodwork and multitude of other skills, including material sourcing.

Way to go Correna! I just finished my Gilmour-a-like today and am really pleased. I fabricated a bracket for the mini switch but wasn't happy about how it looked so using the 2nd black 1 ply pickguard from stewie's I refitted all and wired my tone into a blender pot instead of the switch thanks to the previous advice of either Ceri or Niki(sorry guys can't remember  ) and it works a dream, much less fiddily to do also...will post pics as soon as I can guys!

Ah, that's the Ninja mod, without a doubt. Credit must go where it's due! :D

Good to hear it worked for you. Now, how do you like those extra sounds?

Cheers - C

[quote="Ceri:

HELP!!---somebody bring me up to speed on this. I've been trying to review the entire thread but all the solder vapor I must have inhaled in my youth has obviously fuzzed my brain.

To cut to the chase, in the Gilmour circuit, reading Fender specs, and proving them out on my guitar, the neck pickup is active in positions 1,2,3 when the toggle is in the 'on' position which is towards the bridge.

It gives you the following combinations starting from the bridge:

1: bridge/neck
2: bridge/middle/neck
3: middle/neck

If that's what she has, then the wiring is correct. Anything else, is not.

The pickguard should be solid black plastic, not laminated black/white, and drilled for 11 holes to be cosmetically correct and period correct to the guitar.

Now one might ask as to why these combinations. All I can suggest is a subtle ease of tonal color variations going hand in hand with that monster floor controller of his, because the net result of adding the neck pickup to the mix seems to be nothing more than a softening of the tone. I must add, this may not be the case using pickups other than the ones selected for the Gilmour.

Correna would be most impressed with the young female ophthalmologist who replaced the lens in my right eye this past March. Of course, there's always Lita Ford, Jennifer Batten, Orianthi Panagaris, Tal Wilkenfeld

Accomplishment is independent of gender. 8)

Doc
