Sssshhhhhh! Its a big secret, so dont tell anybody.

But Strats arent better than Les Pauls.

They are just different.

Exactly.

For some things a Les Paul is better, for others a Strat is better.
It depends on the song, type of music, setting, player, band or solo, which Les Paul, which Strat, etc.

No reason you can't like both.

And no reason you can't prefer one over the other-whether you still like both or if you only like one & hate the other.

You should be able to state your preference for one without insulting the other.

That's exactly what I was trying to relate in my first post. I'm not sure why anyone has to trash one brand over another. I own many guitars from at least 9 different makers and they are all special in their own way. My friends often ask which is the best. My answer: "what type of music would you like me to play?"

I guess one of the big points is that you dont get "buyer's remorse" when you buy a strat

A Strat doesn't have to empty your pocket as much as a Les Paul.

When you start talking Custom Shop ... the prices are very similar!

I have no more than two by any company (Ibanez), although I do hope to get to two Fenders one day (That is get a Strat) and two Gibsons (an SG or one of the semi hollows)

My #1 is a Les Paul. I like it more because I get better sustain and a warm, fat tone that you can only get from a LP. I also enjoy the independent volume controls that allow you to blend pups and the more substantial set neck. I also prefer the tune o matic bridge. These features appeal more to me as a player, but I also like oranges more than apples.
I love the strat, too. Just for different reasons.

I often play for a long time at a stretch and I don't like a heavy weight on my shoulder. Strats are light, especially mine with the thin nitro finish. Les Pauls can have nice blues tone. There's the Slash which has a great tone. I recently played a gold top LP through a Bassman amp (got to get a t-shirt again) and it sounded great. However, it didn't sound better than my Highway One upgraded with Custom Shop TxSpcs, which was 500 all-inclusive with a hard case. It was on sale. So, the Strat is just much more guitar for the money. On playability, I've played Strats for years and years and anything else is clunky. The world-beating Strat design is a classic for a reason. It's simply better, at least for me. I'd like a countoured heel but I'll have to do it myself to get one, or buy a Beck or Dx. My Strats got huge sustain and I don't need more of it. The steel block in the bridge helps I think. On versatility, I can go to a sound appropriate to church to a sound for blues just by turning the volume knob on a Blues Junior. All-in-all, for value, the Strat's a winner.
