Like i said the floyd is a good well built system, its all how you use them. Go blasting and hammering the thing like EVH and your going to get a couple of months at best. A slight squeal here and there in a solo and it will last for ages. Myself i just cant play lightspeed thrash solo's very well so revert to the hanneman/king infernal damnation noises with the trem.

I think it was the Ibanez lowpro trems that had replacable knife edges. Very good idea that one. Why bother replacing the trem when you can just replace the knife edges?

I didnt know you could relace them on the current tremolo

I guess I've never really used any style of tremolo enough to form an opinion about how well they wear, but for reasons of general solidity I like my 6-point equipped guitar over my 2-point.

Back in the very early '90s I had a couple of Ibanez guitars with locking tremolos -- a Sabre (guess they don't make those anymore, but they were the thin Frank Gambale-endorsed model) and a reasonably fancy RG series. Nice guitars, both, but in the end I couldn't handle the fact that you can't really bend a string without making any other note you may be playing flat. If your guitar's not there for you when you're bending a string, it's worthless in my opinion.*

I sold both and bought myself a strat ultra with a 2-point tremolo, and I found that the roller nut and locking tuners behaved at least as well as the Ibanez units as far as tremolo use and tuning stability went. It's lasted very well since then ('92), though as I stated earlier I don't give the tremolo a real workout. I was never very happy with the locking nut on the Ibanez guitars, now that I think about it, as it just seems a bad idea to have a couple of big screws going right through your neck at its most vulnerable point.

Earlier this year I bought a more vintage-style strat with the 6-point system, and it feels pretty much like a hardtail to play, except with whatever springiness you get from having.. erm.. springs in your guitar. Tuning on this guitar seems more stable than any other I've owned, locking nut or no. I'm liking the 6-point right now purely because I associate it with this guitar.

I would say a 2-point would suit you fine; it's a good system, particularly if you plan on actually using the tremolo.

I've got 4 strats with the vintage trem and 3 with the 2 point and really the differences are small and the tuning stability is the same when properly set up.The only thing that I can add is this,I feel that the 2 point has a smoother feel and I believe that if blindfolded I could tell the difference,so I guess that both are good but when pressed to pick one I pick the 2 point.
