I am thinking about picking up a new american standard, and my local GC has two that I like. One is black, the other is olympic white. both have maple boards. any suggestions on which one to pick up?

I would go the Olympic White, they look awesome with the maple fretboard...The black also looks awesome with rosewood fretboard..

here is my 3 Burst 08 American Standard...I love it.

I would play them both for a while if I were you. Color is always a nice option, but it won't make up for any inconsistencies in a guitar. No one guitar is the same as the other, even if they're the same model.

Pick which one plays and sounds the best.

I'll echo these other guys. Pick the one that plays better. If they seem close, or you have no preference, I'd go with the white one. I own an 08 Olympic White American Standard with a maple board and I LOVE IT. Although black is cool, the white just looks so much cooler to me.

agreed about going with which ever one playes and better but I've always went with black guitars if I could find one that had the sound I was looking for. That color sets my groove

That 'burst looks great with the maple board! 8) I have a black and a white Strat, by my Blizzard Pearl is kind of cool too.

Yeah its a tough call color-wise...I was dealing with the same issue when i picked up my strat that i own now. Before I knew I would customize the living crap out of it, I was hell bent on getting a white strat with a rosewood board. I played one at Guitar center and I actually didn't like it at all. I then picked up a black one with a maple board and it was love at first note.

If they play and feel the same, the Oly white with a dark tortise guard is in this opinion a hot look.

Are you asking what color we like best?

Is there any difference between the guitars besides the body color?

Have you played either of them yet? Did they feel or sound different?

Exact same guitars. American standards with maple necks. only difference is one has a olympic white body, and the other is black. The olympic white is what i was originally looking for when i went to GC, but the black stood out very nicely with the contrast of colors (black body, white pickguard, maple neck).

They felt roughly the same. With other people around playing other guitars, it was a little tough to notice any difference between the two.

If I didn't already have the sienna sunburst american standard, I'd think about picking them both up, but I can't really afford both without selling the 3rd.

I just dont get this. Why is everyone elses opinion more important than your own preference on something as petty as colour.
If they play and sound the same pick whichever one you prefer the look of, its your money paying for it. If it was my money i'd expect to be the only person pick the colour of the guitar i bought.

You should demand that they get a Sunburst with Maple neck for you!
