I'm after my first fender... I want that twang that you can only get from fender guitars that I've played on clean channel... I want to know if a strat or a tele would get better dirty tones.

Both are good different from each other but good non the less. Go back and try them out with a bit of drive.

I was in there playing for a long time already. Plus with the amp I have (Hot Rod De Ville) you can't push the tubes without really turning it up loud. Too loud for the shop.

Ah shops dont care if their going to get a sale.

Both guitars respond completely differently to drive, its something you need to hear for yourself.

If a shop is not going to let you turn an amp up so as to try out one of their guitars that you might very well buy, I think the time has come for you to find a new dealer.

When I go to the shop and am serious about buying something, I'm going to turn it up and damn anyone else there. It's your money, my friend; you should be totally satisfied.

Go to GC they don't care if you turn up the amp.

Well I bought a Joe Strummer Tele... My first fender and the overdrive on my amps sucks... haha. I have a Fender Hot Rod De Ville. I traded in a guitar to get this guitar and had extra credit. So the only distortion pedal that
they had with the left over credit was a Electo Harmonix Metal Muff. I thought I could just turn down the gain or whatever to get a good gritty sound. However, it's just too heavy for me. Anyone know of a great pedel that will sound like I'm pushing the tubes just enough to sound a little dirty but not metal?

A great under rated pedal that will act as a clean boost or a mild drive look at the digitech bad monkey. Its pretty much a ts8 clone with more tonal options. Only costs about £30 and does its job perfectly. I bought one 2 years ago and wouldnt be without it now. It is very mild but when used with your amps drive should get some great sounds.

A lot of people like TubeScreamers. I use a Blues Driver for that - you can use it for anything from a clean boost, to a good amount of gain.

I prefer the strat, because it has a very versatile sound. You can play any kind of sound and genre with it. The tele to me is a bit limited.

I like my Tele for more of a rock tone and or country stuff. I can also use my Strat for country, but I prefer it for blues over my tele. You can use either for probably any style. It comes down to personal preference. Bottom line, if you are happy with the sound, fit and finish of your Fender, that's all that matters.

I use a Maxon VOP9 (Vintage Overdrive Pro) in my Green Eagle 5E5A . I thinks it's the same or similar to the famous Ibanez tube screamer. Maxon is actually the company who made the Ibanez pedals.
