What are the differences between the Fender 1960's Time Machine, Time Machine NOS, and the 1962 RI Stratocaster?
Also, do all of these guitars have the same pickups, and are they noiseless?
Thanks. :D

If they're replicas of 60s era Strats, the pickups shouldn't be noiseless.

Google the strats you're looking at and read the specs, they should be readily available on a number of websites.

With the time machine you will get a better quality of wood used. Probably a 2 piece body and flame maple neck. It will be shaped and assembled by customshop builders (just because their not masterbuilders doesnt mean they are not cream of the crop). Your going to find a higher quality finish, no urethane undercoat. A better shaped neck and a better cut nut from bone not synthetic bone. Neither guitar has noiseless pickups.

Okay thanks.

So is the 1962 strat made as closely as possible to the original 1962 strat? because on the time machine nos it says it is like going to a guitar shop in 1960 and buying the guitar, but it doesnt mention anything like that for the american vintage 1962. i would hope on all reissues made in the custom shop that the guitar would try to be made as closely as possible to the original year, but idk thats just me.

second question, which would everyone suggest for the jimi hendrix and john frusciante, stevie ray vaughan tone???

I currently own a 60s Time Machine closet classic and sold a 62 RI to help pay for it. The tone of the 60s is I think closer to a SRV tone then the 62 RI. Both are very nice guitars but the Time Machine is much nicer to play in my op.

I have a '66 time machine relic... just confirming what others have said, really. Best guitar I've played, let alone owned. The '60s time machines from the custom shop generally feature pickups voiced in a period-correct fashion; i.e. they have a much lower output than, say, the CS '69s. If you want to approximate Hendrix' tone, the lower output pickups are vital. Remember that most of his recorded output was produced with instruments from the mid '60s, and the '69 Woodstock-era model that has most recently come to be associated with him would have been something he played for perhaps a year at the end of his life. As far as I know, you can't just buy those '60s pickups from the Custom Shop, so you may as well get them in one of the nicest guitars you'll ever come across.

I would have paid about the same amount for mine... AUD $3,300, which earlier in the year was about USD $2,000 (plus 10% goods & services tax). It worked out to be roughly half the retail price of a new one, which was fine by me.

It's possible to get SRV tone with Texas Specials (although changing the string thickness and playing with the pick upside down like Stevie makes just as much difference), and another good set of pickups are Fender Fat '50s. I've never tried the Fat '50s, but I hear they're good. You'll also need a Fender tube amp(s) and a tubescreamer type pedal. And after all that, you still won't sound like Stevie. You'll sound like you with a Stevie-ish tone.
