Hey, everyone - has any of you ever put flat-wounds on your strat? If so, what gauge? Did you have to make any changes to the set-up?

I just bought a set of flat-wound .11s to see how they sound.

Thanks,
DC

I use custom made Flatwound sets in 9-42, 9-46, 10-42, and 10-46 on my Strats.
I check my setup after EVERY string change.

Yup.

50s Reissue Standard 2003 MIJ in Surf Green / maple, set up for 11 flatwounds by the Third Coast Gutar pros.

DRs with a wound 3rd. Good stuff.

My Dad uses them on his bass and they give him a warmer sound, and they don't wear down his frets as much as roundwounds would. I would imagine the effects would be similar for guitar too.

Chet, may I ask where you get your 10-46 flatwounds? I've been wanting to try flatwounds on my Jazzmaster, but 11s are the smallest gauge I've found.

I'm sorry I never saw this.

I make my own sets using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for the G, B, and e strings and then Dean Markley Flat Wounds for the E, A, and D strings.
