When installing the bridge on the six screw system, is there supposed to be any "spacers" on the screws between the bridge and the body?

Just wondering because I know on the 2 point the "screws" are beveled so the knife edge of the bridge is at a fairly "fixed" height, i.e. you can adjust the front of the bridge by raising or lowering the bridge screws.

I just installed a vintage 6 point and the treble side seems to stay low to the body while the bass side is up at the head of the screws.

Thanks!

This is a little over simplified, but it might help: http://www.axeblaster.com/instructions/instructions2.html

Thanks.

I'm going to assume there isn't anything under the bridge. With adjustments I have it a lot better.

No, there are not supposed to be any kind of spacers.

Sight unseen, it sounds like your treble side screws are down a touch too far which is causing the bass side to lift. Or, your bass side screws aren't down far enough, causing the bridge plate to lean toward the treble side.

Try this:

Without the back springs attached to the tremolo or any of the strings attached to the machine heads, screw each of the 6 bridge plate screws down, one at a time until the particular screw you are working with begins to lift the plate/block forward toward the pickguard. Once this happens, back that screw out just enough so it allows the plate to once again sit flush on the body. Do the same procedure with the other 5 screws. Lastly, put the springs and strings back on; tune and adjust the strings and claw as appropriate and this should solve your problem.

Thanks Martian!

This was exactly the step by step I was looking for! I'll try it as soon as I get home tonight.

It makes so much sense it totally alluded me.

OK.

Got the kids in bed, check.

Did the dishes, check.

Took the clothes off the line, check.

Adjusted the tremolo just like martian suggested, check, check and double check.

Works like a charm! Very stable now and returns in tune! I went through the whole setup and this guitar may become my new favorite. I have other strats with the 2 point but I keep those with the bridges flush to the body. I wanted one to float and this does nicely.

Thanks Martian! You gave me the "easy" button.

Mark.
