can anyone help me out here?
I have a GREEN stratocaster and on the back is mentioned that it is an 25 anniversary.
if I check the serial number it must be a real one, but I don't have any certificate from my strat. however, when I dial in the serial number in a search list, I see that is must be a strat build in '69 instead of 79!
the rest from the strat seames to be correct (specs).

is anyone there who can convince me if this is a real or a fake one?

thanks,
Dennis

Welcome to the Forum.

Pictures would help us figure it out.

First off, the 25th anniversary Strat only came in silver. Also there is no bullit truss rod end in the headstock. :?

I would suggest taking the neck off and see what is written on the neck and in the neck pocket.

OK, I was wrong about the truss rod on the 25th anniv. ,but who would paint a cheesy color green over that nice silver finish? Here's what it should look like. :P

Hmmm. Well everything about this 25th Anniversary Strat checks out, including the trussrod and the serial number.

...Except, as has been noticed, that most unusual green color.

Here's an article I posted the other day when someone else was asking about this model:

http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/ ... 00093.html

Notice that it says the first 500 were finished in Pearl White, but it proved unstable and many (but not all) were recalled and repainted in Porsche Silver.

Presumably then this is one where the finish started going bad but didn't get sent back for respraying, instead being treated to a one-off paint job. Unique choice of color!

Anyhow. Here's the other thread if it helps - though I don't think it adds much...

In the event a guitar is, or has been, refinished, what does this do to the value? Anything?

My pops bought his '58, years ago, with a non-factory finish, which many years later he had re-finished to match the orginal.

It hurts it. (And the pickguard ain't original on the OP's Strat either. And who knows what else has changed under the hood?)

A real '58? That's still worth a lot even with a re-fin.

But it would have been worth a truckload more with the original paint...

Refinishing a guitar seems to remove about half its value for collectors... but at least it puts what is likely to be a nice player more within reach of actual musicians. Mind you, half of "prohibitively expensive" is still too much for most of us... heh.

It's strange, sometimes, the premium that attaches to "originality"... I saw a strat not long ago that had been refinished at the factory maybe two years after it was first purchased, so the "refin" was over 45 years old and was in perfect keeping with the rest of the guitar. Still about half the price of one where the customer didn't change their mind...

Yup, a real '58. When he bought it (used), some knucklehead had painted it.... with a paint brush. He sent it to a person that re-finished it.

It's not played any longer, just sits in the case

Everything but the color checks out? The original poster would have to show me quite a few more (and better) pictures before I conclude that anything other than the neck plate was a from a 25th Anniversary Stratocaster (made from 1979-1981, IIRC).

A refinish (unless it was done at the Fender Factory) knocks the value down by Half.

Yeah, fair enough. I could have worded it better. I should have said, nothing contradicts the 25th Anni ID other than the color. ...And the pickguard...

There was some question earlier about whether it should have a bullet trussrod, but in fact the headstock is right for the claimed model.
