If you're mainly interested in tuition, Guitar Techniques is the best IMO. Guitarist gas fewer lesson pages but there are a lot of nice reviews, gear tests and news there. I think those two are UK mags, so if you are in the USA, taking out a subscription to an american magazine would be more economical. IMO, though, the ones I mentioned are better-I guess it's the page layout and the style.

guitar world magazine is by far the best guitar magazine you can get. each issue comes with about 5 extremely accurate tabs with bass lines. they also have reviews about different guitar products, like guitars, amp, and effects. they have plenty of interviews with famous musicians and at the end of every magazine there is an illustration of the live rig of a chosen guitarist, from paul gilbert to ywingie malmsteen. thats probably my favorite part of the magazine. throughout the magazine you will find lessons from incredibly skilled guitarist. try one- you wont find a better guitar magazine.

If you are looking for guitar tab in a monthly magazine I recommend "Guitar Edge"

I see a lot of recommendations for Guitar World. I personally can not recommend a subscription to that magazine. I had paid for a full (with CD's) 2 year subscription, when I started getting my monthly mailings, the CD was not included. When I contacted them they told me I had not paid for the CD's. I canceled and asked for a refund.
I do buy singles only if there is something really interesting in it.

I have been getting Guitar Player this year and can say I am impressed with it. Nice blend of reviews, bio, lesson and insight. Very well rounded.

I'd say the best all around guitar mag is Guitar Player. If you're looking for mostly tabs, you will probably find more in some other magazines, but GP tends to have a broadest coverage of everything without specializing.

I agree 100%, I love that magazine. It's expensive, but it's been absolutely worth it for me.

+1 on Guitar Player, unless you're into thrash speed metal stuff, the Guitar World is great. I find that about half the issues in Guitar World have interviews and tabs from thrash bands that I've never heard of. This month was the Allmans, which was great, but a lot of times I don't care about most of what is in the magazine.

Thank god for saving back issues.Guitar one was by far the best American guitar magazine for years and also the first to offer multi tabs.I cannot believe they totaly ruined that mag,it eventualy morphed with guitar world which is decent. But I have to agree with the other members who recomend Guitar Techniques from the U.K by FAR HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST. Also Total Guitar from the U.k is GOOD but more in the vein our guitar world.Check out Licklibrary.com by far my favorite guitar site as most of the guys who work for these mags are on this site.

Hi Trauma: an annual subscription to Guitarist is a regular Christmas pressie from the wife to me. Haven't got bored with it yet.

Probably more pricey where you are though. And combing the ads will have less relevance for you.

Good CDs though (including video content); and a well produced DVD once a year in the summer. I've discovered a couple of fine players that way. And I find the reviews excellent and reliable. Worth a try...

Cheers - C
