why doesn't fender make a hendrix signature strat? of all the fender playing guitarists, hendrix deserves to have his own signature strat. i think it would be a great way to honor the late great guitar legend.

Hard to know for sure, considering the stupid stuff Fender tries to market sometimes. They'd probably sell a pile of JimiStrats to teenagers anyway.

One big issue might be that Jimi played "off the shelf" Strats for the most part. You want a Jimi Strat? Buy an American Standard or a 69 Reissue.

Another issue might be that Jimi isnt around to tell them what he would want in his signature guitar. They could do some research, but its somebodys interpretation and not Jimi talking.

Another might be, besides that he is a lefty, that Jimi was known to manipulate his guitars in ways that would require Fender to really specialize the guitar components. For example, Jimi files his frets down to his liking. What fret wire should Fender use?

good point, but dont they have one of hendrix's guitars in a museum or something? what if fender just tried to copy as specifically as they could?

I think there are also issues with negotiating the deal with the Hendrix estate. They are known for "wanting to be paid"...

Hasn't Fender made several Hendrix Strats in the past?

They have. From what i can tell non of them sold too well. The lefty's strung righty's were too difficult to play. The voodoo strat did do better but not well enough to warrant continued manufacture. Half the problem is as soon as you incorporate hendrix'isms into a strat it becomes instantly recognisable as a hendrix. Other signature models dont suffer the same fate. A clapton strat is just a strat to the non guitar playing audience, same for a trower or even a gilmour. As soon as people of a certain age see a upside down large strat headstock they think 'ah hendrix'. Its not always the best thing.

From what I've heard, the Hendrix Estate is getting harder to deal with and want huge money. Anything even vaguely suggesting Jimi Hendrix is threatened with a lawsuit by them.

YeahI've seen the woodstock one in a german store, which was basically a lefty olympic white strat strung right handed and it played awfully. But its really sad that there isn't a real interest in them ;ike the Clapton one which has been about ages but then jimi played a different one practacally all the time whereas Clapton had brownie and blackie for years...Sad tho that gibson can have a Hendrix Flying V and fender can't get a signature one to sell well at all...

that's because the hendrix V was personal and different to hendix' strats. they were just standard, and no one wants to pay extra for a standard strat with a name on it
